It's been a long time since I've been back. Is Northridge doable with a download from snowdon, or would that be too far a walk between lifts to keep most people interested?

Walking back up Killink is not too big of a deal, it's around 700ft (the length of the Rams Head lot), and K could very easily build a tow like the superpipe one to run the length if they wanted.

However, the issue may be that I think the Snowdon lifts are only rated for 10 or 20% Download capacity, which could make getting people back off the mountain time consuming.

Skis - check.
Boot/gear bag - check
Tigger Costume - check

Guess where I hope to be on Friday? Only time will tell.

SR - if you blow it, we will come.

No Tigger costume, but I have the day off. If they blow, I will see you there, my friend! :snow:

Looking at this NOAA report for the week, if skiing is going to happen, it's hard to imagine it would be at SR unless these are strictly temps for the low-lying valleys...

Biggest issue that we'll be dealing with for the next few weeks temp wise, is the relatively warm ocean and its moderating effect. Atleast in Long Island Sound just off CT, the Ocean is still in the mid 50's, and that's going to unfortunately go along way to breaking down big pools of cold air from the Northwest relatively quickly. :(

Looking at the forecasts...SR seems to be the only possibility for next weekend. Based on what Snow-forecast.com is predicting, they look like they'd have about a day and a half to two days of good snowmaking temps for the top section of Locke.

Killington will take longer to blow enough snow to open, and will have more to lose if it all melts. Until they invest in an early season strategy that is cheaper than K1 top to bottom plus Glades, they will be behind SR and Mt Snow in the race to open. This will be especially true in years when large cold air masses move down from Canada and elevation is less of a factor. The barn door was left open, and now its too late. What was once the sole province of Killington is now owned by other mountains. If Killington does want to re enter the early open media sweepstakes, they'll no longer enjoy the lack of competition in that endeavor, and will have to invest in either tons of snow every year or an upper mountain lift change. Pay me now or pay me later.

One thing that is slightly being overlooked here is that no one has come out and said that they want to be open for Halloween or the following day. Sure, we get a sense of Mount Snow's intentions from their recent activity, but haven't they still mentioned the 7th as their target date? While there is lot's of speculation about SR, it is mostly founded on what happened last year. At no point has SR made any indication that they even plan to try to make snow this week. While I wish they would, it just isn't the case. I think Snow's window of cold weather is way too short to allow them to open.

Yes, I understand that part of the strategy is to not speak of you intentions if you plan to be the first to open, but in order to open, you have to prep for snowmaking, aside from the 10/19 test, no one has seen that SR has done this. Boyne may be content with their showing last year.

I'm simply playing devil's advocate here as I REALLY want to ski and ski now, but being realistic, the places we are talking about have little chance for this weekend. Perhaps the Bush could fly under the radar and surprise people??

Here we go with the long range forecasts. Folks - let's take it week by week. Unless of course the long range outlooks are favorable, then they are accurate! ;)
