Yup. Weekends will be 9-5 starting this Saturday.

JR check your info, hearing different up here today.

I think Hado might be correct on this one. My son has a race at Magic this coming Sunday, and the official race info sheet that Magic sent out has course inspection on Showoff listed as starting at 8:40.

Now if they wanted to let racers (probably about 70 going on Sunday), coaches (probably about 15-20 on Sunday) and parents (usually about 30 of us ski on race day vs just hike up and watch our kids) up the Red before the general public gets access at 9AM on what could very well a powder day, I'm fine with that ;) :)

That's because Magic will likely be washed out when other areas adjust their operating times.

I don't get what you have against Magic. You seem to shit on it every chance you get. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: Magic will go til 5. Not exactly sure when. Hope JR is right!

Sugarbush who I believe was the 1st area to extend hours in the spring years ago usually switches to a 10-5 schedule, maybe they open at 9am weekends, I forget. Last year when Killington switched to a 5pm close opening times stayed the same, 9am weekdays 8am weekends.

What we've done in the past couple years is this:
Mon-Fri: Bravo runs 10am-5pm. All other lifts (upper/lower mtn) run 10am-4pm.
Sat-Sun: Bravo runs 9am-5pm. All other lifts (upper/lower mtn) run 10am-4pm.
Upper mtn gets an extra 15 minutes, 7 days a week. Bravo gets an extra hour at the end of the day, and on weekends, an extra hour in the AM. This usually occurs AFTER Mt Ellen closes for the season, so early April. And it only started when DST's start time got pushed to March... it used to be in April.

With Mt Ellen remaining open this year (w/p) until April 5, I'd guess "springtime" hours would start sometime after that, if not on April 6. Of course time will tell.

Remember that there are low wage employees that have to man lifts and sweep trails for that extra hour. They have family/school/second job time constraints that might not be compatible with those extra hours. Plus it's a crap shoot. Two days ago, everybody skiing at 4:00 probably wished for extra time....yesterday not so much.

Being that there website has a projected closing date of april 5, I agree they will be washed out in early april when most resorts are just starting to switch. They dont blow the snow to make it any longer and all that natural snow will melt out very quick.

I just got off the phone with Magic, and at least for this weekend, the Red will start spinning at 8:30. How late it spins will depend on the combo of what the weather is doing come 4PM and how many people are using the Red vs using the BLT ;)

With their lower base elevation it's tough to hold onto the snow in the base area when things really warm up but as of now it's still pretty deep. As for cover on the slooes, there were some people skinning Talisman into late April/early May last year and I suspect there will be several options from the top for quite a few weeks to come.

I'd go by the website for sure. They will close when ticket sales dictate it.

Killington will normally change to a 9-5 starting in early April.
They usually switch when they close Bear after the Mogul challenge. Being they moved the BMMC to the second weekend of April this year because Easter is the first weekend I'd guess that's when they'll switch.

I wish SR would switch to 9-5 but they never do. They have gone till 4:30-45 on some days that really don't soften up til later, or where it was yucky in AM and suddenly turns bluebird at 1pm...but it's not often. Means people stick around longer and apres in the sun with beverages.
