Lets not bash otheres choices. The vibe of the thread was to get posters ideas not judge.

Hey Bob, shut up its almost summer what else do we suposed to do. ;)

Anyway, I was just saying why would anyone want to go to waterville not even thinking about the park, because come on now without the park waterville is not really a good mountain compared to loon, cannon, or wildcat.

Austin well noted. I know many families that would disagree with us. Even some co-condo owners of mine are Waterville skiers. Most I think would feel Cannon or Wildcat are the best.

I understand that Wildcat and Cannon are better mountain for experts. But for everyone else I just thought loon was better than Waterville in almost every aspect. I never been to loon, but I've been to Waterville once and I would have to say I have never been to place that has skied so small with a 2,000 ft. vertical.

VT - Sugarbush (Biased because I live there)
PA - Whitetail (Only other place out of the MRV i have skied)

Next season, I think I will take a few days to hit a few other places, mabey Jay, Killingtion (in october or may), and I might go over to NH for a day to check out Cannon. If I feel like it I might give Whiteface a shot as well, probably if there is good natural snow and the slides are open. Hopefully most of the vert is pretty steep there, and it isn't flat and easy twords the bottom.

I am thinking of going over to tuckermans next spring, though as of now I don't think I am up to that. I have only been skiing a year, having started last spring at Sugarbush. I can carve up any blue or groomed black no problem, and as of this spring I finaly got into some of the double blacks, (before they turned to corn as well). I am looking forward to checking out some other places now that I can hit most of the terrain in a day, and really get something out of it.

i still contest that waterville does not have 2000 verts. they count the top of mount tecumseh as the top of the ski area for crying out loud.

NY: Whiteface (Haven't been to Plattekill)
VT: Jay (tough one, gave to Jay for snow)
NH: Cannon
ME: Saddleback (again, close)
MA: Beast
UT: Alta
WY: JHMR

Interesting about the parks. Being old school, that stuff's off my radar.

I try not to say much about Loon cause thats my home mountain and I have a bit of a close minded approach to it. ie( the crowds and the sometimes social scene over taking the ski scene) I like it enough to make a 2nd home in the area. I respect your approach Austin.(skiing oriented)
The thing about Loon and Waterville is there is a decent base at each area with Condo's and homes. The social aspect of skiing is very relevant and part of the environment.

I would say that Cannon and Wildcat are filled more with folks just into skiing.

Loon and Waterville put alot of attention on the parks and mini parks trying to please young kids ....and parents so the kids enjoy coming. I have no interest what so ever in parks, but I care that my son has developed a passion for boarding and alot of it is cause of the parks.
I drive into Waterville to hang out an night with my kids and hit the Candy store, see the fireworks grab a beer or burger in the little village catch sleigh ride. Those things matter when you treating skiing as a destination event.

I was harsh and I'm sorry. My point is there are different likes and dislikes.

If you just started last season and can hardly ski a double black, then I would say that the Slides are probably over your head. I have never skied them, but from what I hear they're some of the steepest terrain in the east and they're definitely ungroomed. I would try and ski Liftline at Castlerock cleanly and then think about that trip. Same advice goes for Tucks.

I've been to both Loon and Waterville. I've also been to Pats Peak. so of those 3 i chose waterville as my favorite NH area because, in MY opinion, True Grit and Bobbys are tougher than anything loon has to offer, therefor making waterville more fun for me. If you disagree thats fine but its also your opinion. Not right, not wrong, just an opinion.
