Yesterday (Sat. 1/27) I skied at Killington and apart from the crowded trails, I had a great day. It was cold and snowy all day and as I was riding up a chair I realized that this was the first day of the season where I was actually cold. It felt great!

O.K. so I didn't really freeze my ass off but my feet and hands were cold at various points during the day. It felt great to ski during actual winter conditions! Anyone else enjoy skiing in cold weather?

Personally....I love skiing in really cold weather, keeps people away.

When you were at K, did you do the south ridge area? That area is always empty, and if you can find breakaway and other trails like it, they will be close to untracked days after a storm.

I grew up where it was really quite cold and very snowy (ah, the good old days...)
If you didn't learn how to amuse yourself in the wintertime you'd either become depressed (common) or an alcoholic. My parents didn't take to winter outdoor activities, but I gravitated toward the "quiet" sports (Man vs. Nature, not machine-assisted, save for the lifts). Something about the solitude, tranquility, the silence that the snows bring. Give me a sunny, cold winter day and I am in heaven.

I prefer the cold weather over the warmer winter temps. I sweat like a mutha with any temps above 30.

I do the same. I suspect I've a little husky blood in me. hmmmm

I once checked a world atlas & looked up the avg Jan. & June temperatures for the nearest major city to where I grew up (NYC) and the nearest major cities to where my grandparents were born (Kiev & Warsaw). In both cases, old country averages about 10 degrees cooler than NY/NJ.

Maybe that's why I can ski in 10 degree weather and still work up a sweat, as well as being the first nutcase on the mountain to ski in shorts & a t-shirt.

I sooo agree.I'll say this though:Friday night heading to Cannon, the lowest temp showed at -4 at the Lincoln(Loon Mt) exit. From the bottom of the notch to my house at Mittersill the temp plunged to - 17.And that was 6:30 pm.I wasn't quite ready for that.I think I am finally in full out winter mode now.Bring it on!!
