Who has taken bump lessons not summer camp?

At what mountain?

Was it an hour lesson, full day, or weekend clinic?

What did you think of the instructor or coach?

Did you ski mostly flat terrain or moguls?

If you had any other people in your group did they hold back the class?

Did you learn anything?

Would you consider taking a full one day or two clinic, if not, why?

Thanks:wink:

hour, although i would think it'll be closer to two. a few guys on here have taken private lessons from Evan Dybvig, who apperently runs the place, and recommend a lesson from him.

I took the 2 day bump clinic they give at Killington a few years ago. Over 50% of it is on the flats. You've gotta perfect your quick turn technique on the flats before you take it into the bumps.

I've taken a few at Bell and Hunter. the problem is on hill time vs lift time. I did take an all day clinic at Hunter that was worth it, video and food included. A 1 hour lesson isn't enough.

Remember who the instructor was at Hunter?

I haven't and though I'm sure a lesson would help me become a better skier, I don't have much interest. I have fun skiing just as I am.

I'm hardly as good of a bump skier as the people I see footage on here, but I can hold a line. I started off young in middle school wanting to learn them and did two things. First I watched the best bump skiers on the mountain to see how they went about it. Second I just committed to doing it. I forced myself to go straight down the zipper line as fast as I could. In the beginning, I'd make it about five bumps before totally being out of control and blowing up with a spectacular crash. Through many punishing days like that, I eventually was able to extend how long I could hold the line in control.

taught them for a few years....
there's a lot of info that helps people, but the core, fall line and ability to breath usually define a successful run in my eyes, so my lessons were always, i guess, half assed. i find difficulty in being technical when it comes to skiing and prefer to do many many runs, with a little guidance thrown in.

Took a private focussing on bumps with a PSIA level III instructor at Belleayre - I think his name was Don and he was head of the ski school a few years back. Breakthrough results. Not necessarily that day, but it was early in the season and I applied what he taught me throughout the season. 50/50 on groomed terrain (short turns, pivots, edge control), and bumps.

Though I'm sure it helps, I couldn't be bothered ass wiggling on flats. I'd either rather be actually skiing bumps or laying over GS turns on the flats.

Alpine Meadows, 1990, semi private...2hrs. Skied a mix of flat and bumps...instructor was pretty good...did a good job of explaining to a group of 17yr old bump freaks why it was important to work on skills on flat terrain too. We were all roughly the same level. Probably learned something...but it was a long time ago.
Wouldn't take a clinic these days...other than a few guys I went to college with who are dev team/demo team/examiners I don't think there's much I could get out of a typical lesson.
I'd take a snow science course/avalanche safety class...can always learn something in that arena.

took a 2 hour group lesson at Okemo a few years ago and was the only student. spent about 30 minutes in the bumps towards the end of the lesson. it was the most useful 30 minutes of ski instruction i'd ever had (though i have not had a lot).
