I doubt the 3k of vert is non-stop in a group..it probably includes a few breaks..doing that amount of vert non-stop on a groomer is leg burning..and in powder would be uber tough. What would irk me about heli-skiing is if there wasn't any fairly new powder to ski...if there was a recent thaw/freeze cycle..it could mean refrozen crud..

I looked into both WPG and Diamond (out of Powder MT.) WPG was around $900.00 for 6 to 7 runs, Diamond was $650.00. Diamond advertises 18000 vert for the day which adds up to almost 3000 vert per run. I haven't called them yet but will. I'm not even sure if I could do a 3000 vert run non stop. Continuous vert is not my main priority. It's the whole experience I'm looking for. I really want to go up in a heli. Cat skiing is the real bang for the buck and I plan on that as well. One thing that Diamond does that few others do is allow you to pay by the run, like the cat op they have going there. It's funny how few people don't bother with Powder MT. as it really has so much to offer. like this deal. One Ride Heli-Ski Combo Special *
$150.00 - Includes:
1-Heli-Ski Run- approximately 3,000 vertical feet to Paradise Lift
and
1 - Full Day Ski Pass at Powder Mountain Ski Area
(Reservations are not available for the one ride pass - exception custom group tour)

"Its not just skiing its an Adventure!"

FYI, heli vert, especially in Planet Utah is different from lift vert. You may think you're Superman doing laps on lift service, but until you try to get through an entire day of a heli trip's expected endurance, you shouldn't try to compare the two venues as equal.

So, if it's experience you're looking for, that Powder deal is smokin' hot, and unless you've got crazy cash to burn, I'd see if you like the heli thing that way.

The one thing nobody has mentioned in this thread is that the heli experience is not for everyone. Some people I've known, who have never gotten airsick before, lost it in the chopper. Down draft freaks a bunch more.

I think a try before you big buy is smart as hell on this front.

One note on the heli one run back to paradise lift. The peak they drop you at has some sun exposure, so pick your day wisely.

I went heli skiing out of whistler this past winter.

I was in one of the little choppers that fit 8 people including the pilot. You wont get the front seat the guide gets that spot.

As mentioned earlier book it for one of the first days you are there in case the weather is not agreeing you can get it in later in the week.

I would do it. I will do it again.

THe best trip IMO would be to interior canada on a cat trip for a couple of days. My buddy is going this winter for 1500 bucks
