what would be a good time period to reschedule to? mid december? I don't want to have to deal with this issue all over again.

No guarantees on that one either!

Maybe late January/early February??

It's anyones guess.....avoid holiday periods though. So right before would probably be best.

I think I'd call them and try to re-schedule. If you can re-schedule without losing much, or any money I think that would be the way to go. The folks at Killington may (or may not) be willing to cut you a deal. It's clear the weather is not cooperating and they may feel it's better to work a deal with a customer who may do business there in the future rather than snag a quick cancelation fee and tick a potential future customer off. My wife and I were planning to go somewhere the Friday after Thanksgiving but we think we're going to postpone it till conditions look better. We don't think it's worth our time or money to travel 4+ hours to ski on what, at this point, looks like it will be very limited terrain. Now, if it's a difference between losing $100 and $253, I might take the gamble, especially if you think you can have fun in Killington even if the skiing sucks. But I'm not optimistic that conditions will be very good. I'd be especially concerned with beginners.

yes I am concerned as well. There are beginners on my group that will require a quick lesson to refresh their skiing skills. They are definitely going to get into trouble if top to bottom skiing requires going onto blues.

Oh man...why can't this thanksgiving be like last year....last year was great...

Tell the people in your party how much thay are going to lose if you have to cancel...I bet they will make the time for a different date.
Jan, Feb, or march would work I would think. Even with a bad snow year they will have alot more trails open by those times then they will on thanksgiving.

I really doubt it. But no guarantees. They are behind schedule. It's not their fault....just the weather. We could get a dump this weekend and they could open everything. Anything is possible.

Realistically, Snowshed is a ways off and to be honest, realistically pre-season skiing (or any skiing before say mid-December) is almost always geared towards advanced skiers and riders. Hope this helps in the future....

Weather or no weather, I think that getting Snowshed for Thanksgiving would be a long shot. Rams Head may have been open in a "normal" year, but I don't know what "normal" is anymore. Some seasons we are skiing in Thanksgiving and others we aren't until December. It is not really consistent anymore.

Just throwing this out there, If your family is bent on skiing TG weekend and if money is no object, which is understandable if it is....See if Killy can help you by trasferring the reservations to the Canyons, It's Still and ASC resort as I recall, and hop a flight to Salt Lake, my guess is that Utah would have much more snow available this time of year than K-ton could make.
Im just throwing this out there to offer some alternatives
Just a thought to guarantee turns being made on snow this TG weekend...otherwise saddle up and watch some football.

Can anyone throw out the current snow report for The Canyons? They may not even be open...

ok i just called. And I must say, Killington customer service is the best. They basically told me,

"we are aware that the conditions will suck, and we dont want you to sit on your ass doing nothing...so you get a full refund!"

no penalties, nothing!

Thumbs up for killington!

That's nice- good deal-call them back and say you don't a refund- see if they will accept the passes during the "high" season in like feb. Save yourself some money.

Wow. That is awesome. Hopefully Spinmasterk will see this. It is awesome in how you were treated, not as to the circumstances leading to this decision.

So it seems as if problem is solved. I hope that you do make that trip though....and that you stay in here to chat and get help for that new vacation. Send your friends too.

Good luck.

i've been lurking the forums since last year. I don't post much, but do enjoy reading the trip reports!

I'll probably return to killington at a later date. I go to killington at least twice a year.

I'll be at mount snow from 1/3-5. Hopefully it will be okay!

Good. I thought they might work with you this. Though it hurts them financially in the short run, in the long run it oftens makes economic sense for places to work with customers in these kinds of situations. That kind of customer service usually means I think they've earned some of my future business.
