what kind of coverage are we looking at for thanksgiving opening day? Is it even going to be open on thursday?

If i cancel now...I will be hit with a $100 penalty per person. RIght now each person is paying $253....so is it a $153 gamble per person???!?

I am so torn
probably a little too late to offer this advice, but i would strongly recommend beginner and intermediate groups never book ski trips to killington in december. not only is the snow variable and not dependable, but the terrain killington gets open by thanksgiving is generally mostly intermediate to upper intermediate; however, the crowds certainly make an intermediate trail feel like an expert trail. december is a crap shot too, but a lot better odds that snowshed and ramshead will be open by then.

if i were you, i would call and request a reschedule. if the mountain has good customer service, this should be a total no brainer for killington to reschedule. if they don't reschedule, you should take your business else where permanently. just the opinion from someone that works in the service industry and is used to making policy exceptions when customers have valid points, especially if it is not a full refund but rather an equal exchange situation.

$100 penalty out of $253 cost? my opinion is you would be throwing good money after bad if you cancel and loose $100 each. that is 40% of the total cost thrown away. you might as well make the best of it if you can't exchange dates.

btw, i am 99% sure they will be open for thanksgiving weekend. it is too big a weekend for them to blow it and they will have enough snow making opportunity coming up.

Damn, I'm sure they'll be open even if they have to go out there with ice cubes and snocone machines! That's too big of a weekend for them..

K Mart Thanksgiving?

Ok...today is the last day to cancel my reservation to killy for thanksgiving weekend.

We have a party of 6...booked for 4 days lift ticket and 3 nights at the killington condo's.

We are a mix of beginners and intermediates.

Does killington still have enough time to get the mountain ready for thanksgiving? Or is it a bust?

My head is about to blow...since I am the one that planned the trip.

Cancel K-Mart, go to UT. I'm not kidding. You will get much better snow (It is dumping out there this week.) And, it will actually cost you less...including air fare. PM me and I will gladly explain why. BTW, I'm looking for someone to make a "three days of skiing" run right after Thanksgiving. Anyone interested? Jet Blue 8:45 PM departure from terminal 6 at JFK. Return flight is three days later at 11:15 PM (getting in at around 5:30 AM the next morning). RT air fare is around $250.

We know K1 opens first, but is Snowshed usually next on the list?

In the last few years they start in the glades and then blow lower snowdon to open 'top to bottom'. The next step is typically upper snowdon and then snowshed. Then they move onto some combination of bittersweet, skyelark and header.

In the past they have always tried to get snowshed open before the thanksgiving holiday to get those 'ski lesson' dollars and to connect the grand.

If the forecast for next weekend and the start of next week holds and is indicative of the remainder of the week I would bet they get snowshed open by next friday. If the mild temps return than its another story.

I'm thinking, if Snowshed is open then there is the greens he's looking for his friends. It's a real short run, though.
