2,500 miles.

06-07 season VT - 5 days, Whistler, 14.
05-06 season VT 9 days, Whistler, 14
Previous 5 seasons are similar

Life's too short to ski small yo-yo vertical and garbage "snow".
If life is so short, why spend the time flying 2,500 miles......Move west. Then you can leave all this yo-yo vert and garbage snow to the rest of us.

Because the NYC $ and the kids living with the ex are here. Work often takes me to the far west, and / or I fly back through SLC.

Once the kids are in school, you're welcome to scrape all the "packed powder" on 1,000ft (at best) vertical surrounded by snowboarding twits all by yourself.

Oh, and it takes about the same amount of time to fly to SLC from southern CT as it does to drive to MRG - you figure it out.

i agree, move to canada if you can manage to. last spring really sucked around here. 4 feet of new on the loafs short vert was really boring.

also, a lot of the best skiers out west are form the east. i'm not talking about vacationers who manage a long vacation every year either.

I am sure you meant this in a "nice" way when you wrote this ....

Not really. Eastern boarders are the most inconsiderate and attitude chllenged that I've come across. Add to that the fact that all of the "powder" gets scraped off by these no-talents meadering down the hill, and "twits" is a very nice term considering what they should be called.

I was hit twice last year, including once when my achilles took a real shot. Then I had to chase this guy down the hill, to explain the errors of his ways, and then caught a ration of attitude. Ultimately he understood after I fully "explained" why it is unacceptable to hit someone then take off without even ensuring that you hadn't done any damage. I wonder how he liked that excursion into the woods? He's probably recovered by now though. Maybe not.

No more Mr. Nice Guy this year. If you see an orange jacket (any orange jacket) beware and stay away. If another attitude and intelligence challenged twit hits my wife like two years ago, just call for the sled right away. No reason, no excuses, no bs. Instant justice.

Yeah, it was just Dec. Jan and Feb (or 75% of the season) that sucked as I remember, right?

I have pictures of real freshies in May at Whistler - how was May at the "loaf"? If you do it 2.5 times, you can almost get whistler vert - you can always pretend, right?

About 2 hours from my old place in Boston to Berkshire East...I just moved to the Raynham, but I figure the commute will be close to the same.

You could always show up at an AZ outing and show us all how to ski these 1k vert hills.

Remember now .. If you live by the sword, you will die by it.
I will try to remember to keep my distance from you if I should "see" you ... :-D
Oh nice attitude you got going there Buddy ... ;-)

Oh nice attitude you got going there Buddy

I haven't hit anyone in about 40 years of skiing, and certainly would never cop an attitude and run away ignoring my responsibility as has happened to me and my wife, as well as others that I have seen. If you consider that an attitude, then don't hit me - simple, yes?

How a group can have what appears to be such an antisocial and offhandish attitude speaks volumes. Thank goodness for MRG, Deer Valley and Alta. I have pictures of my kids at the entrance to Atla pointing (and smiling) at the no snowboarders sign. They're 14 and 16, and consider snowboarders "punks" (as do I).

FYI - the boarders in the west seem to have evolved a few light years, and don't seem to have the eastern "attitude".

I like poking the bear. Whistler has 5k vert. In may you can only ski about 2k of vert cause everything down below is getting rained on. This year was an epic year for them

Went out there in April. Every day I took a lift up through the rain to get to the snow. They have covered quads for a reason. Went heli skiing and we could only do about 2k of vert cause everything below was to mushy to ski.

Let's see, there I am standing on the side of the trail, in a very visible area (two lessons lost on boarders), and some twit hucks right into me, taking me out from behind, which is how my achilles gets stretched.

Now, how does that translate into learning how to ski?

Lemme guess, your mensa membership card never seems to arrive in the mail, right?

Door to door??? I don't think so. With the new flight regulations that trip is a full day.

Ffld to LGA or BDL - 1 hour + 1 hour before flight + 4.5 hour flight = 6.5 hours. Add 1 hour for luggage and travel and you're standing at the Canyons, or Snowbird or....

Get up at 4:30am, on the road at 5:00, take the early flight (7am) - sleep 3 hours on the flight, get in to SLC at 9:30, be on the hill by 11, and, with the Quick Start program, get a free lift ticket.

I did it twice last season - no problems.

Or, get up at 4:30, on the road at 5, drive 6 hours, be in VT at 11, pay for a lift ticket, and ski eastern "packed powder" - if it's actual freshies, be prepared for the ride to be a lot longer.

"Sounds like an accident" - are you also awaiting your mensa card? An accident is something that should be unavoidable - apparently you missed the clues like "standing" and "visible" from above.

Haven't got a clue what you're talking about (Jewish), and yes, you would be wrong, sorry to burst your bubble. Any other wag's from out of nowhere?

In any case, If I was, I'd be happy just pose in the gondola line with all my latest and greatest gear at Stratton, another vertically challenged mecca.

Gee, if the snow was that great at the 'loaf, then why didn't you go heli skiing there? Oh, that's right, nothing else around.

Yeah, 47 feet of snow this season is fairly epic.

I don't like getting hit by yahoos either...it's happened to me and I've restrained myself from doling out on-slope justice myself. I'll vote to lighten up some on big_vert on that account.

That said, I've been whacked by as many out of control skiers as snowboarders. And skiers can have as crappy an attitude as snowboarders can. I don't like to paint any one group with a broad brush.

I'm happy to share the slopes with skiers and snowboarders, it's the assholes I don't want to be around.

With the time change I guess you could get in close to the same amount of time on the hill, but the actual trip time is still 3 hrs longer.
Where are you driving from in CT? From New London I get to the MRV in 5 hrs.
