Addiction, I skied yesterday (6/22) on the dwindling Mt. Washington snowfield... beat that

Wow, and I was thinking of putting up the question "What's the latest anyone skied yet?" Hat's off to you, how was it?

There isn't a day goes by that I don't think about skiing. The skis hang in the enteryway so everytime I walk in or out of the house I have to walk by them and stop to reminicse about days on the slopes. Summertime is just a time for work to get ready to enjoy the winter! :daffy:

I think about it all the time. I finaly hung up the skis, coudn't keep looking at them by the front door any more. I do like summer but wish winter would come faster. We just booked Tahoe for Feb., we don't wait too long to start booking for next season. Considering that 80% of all our vacations are skiing ones, I guess it's pretty important to us.

some folks ski year round. there is a ski streak web site online about people who ski every month of the year. in new england, i got july 2nd last year. if things dry out, i may get either sunday this weekend. next weekend is a long shot, but it would be cool to do july 2nd two years in a row. lftgly nailed august in tucks one exceptional year, if i remember correctly.

as for greg's question, skiing is important enough that i decided to move into the middle of no where to be near the mountains i love most. it is certainly a part of my life that i am most passionate about. though i have gotten beyond the excitement and withdrawal stages... i just have a constant buzz year round. i suppose skiing early and late on the shoulders of the season help to decrease the amount of withdrawal. last season i only had a 3.5 month off season which helped. ;)

I get the impression that for most members here, skiing is probably the hobby they are most passionate about. Exactly how important is skiing to you? Are you more of a recreational skier; going only a half dozen times per year? Or are you a true fanatic; thinking about skiing every day, even in the summer? Perhaps you're new to the sport, but are quickly becoming addicted?

For me, skiing is very important. I actually get melancholy at the end of the ski season and start to get excited about the upcoming season early in the summer. I constantly talk skiing with my family and friends; some of whom don't ski and probably get annoyed by my rants. But anybody who knows me knows that skiing is the one thing I love to do. Some guys golf. Some guys bowl, or fish, or hike. Me? I ski.

And I thought I would never agree with Greg :p

And to steal from Bob "Skiing is my addiction"

I like summer with biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, etc, but Love skiing.

HMMM there is still skiable snow on Mt. Washington . .. too bad it is supposed to rain tomorrow, oh yeah I probably should stay home and hang with lil Ga2ski as well.

I only ski about a dozen days a year, but I think about it constantly, get depressed at the end of the season, and am very anxious by the time fall comes. So I think about it like a "true fanatic," but unfortunately haven't acted on it the thoughts by skiing many more days the way most people here have.

Skiing is my passion. If I can't do it, then I'm constantly thinking about it. I'm one of those people that will look at a hillside and imagine it with a ski area on the side of it, or dream about trying to reopen a lost ski area and make it flourish. My other passion related to skiing is ski lifts. From what I understand I'm not the only one who looks at power lines going up a hill and imagines them as a chairlift or gondola.

I am pretty obsessed with skiing. I just wish I had the money to be able to go on various different types of skiing vacations. I would love to go to South America or New Zealand for some summer skiing. There are a lot of destinations in the West that I have yet to visit. I was able to ski over 50 days this year but I wish I was able to ski more than that. I hiked to do some skiing before the season opened back in October and hiked and skied on 5/28. Today it was pouring rain in my area and someone mentioned that luckily it was not snow and I replied that I wished this kind of moisture had occurred over the past winter in the form of snow. They looked at me as if I was crazy. I do enjoy gardening and boating in the summer but still think about skiing.

As a "family guy" (43 years old with 3 kids, dog and parrot), this is my second wave love affair with skiing; what better way to be with your family, enjoying the outdoors in the middle of winter. Buying a ski condo was a stretch for us, but the payback in terms of quality family time on the weekends is huge. Yesterday I took our 5 year old twins up to the mountain (Waterville) to look at the green trails and empty lifts.....you should have seen the look of amazement on their faces!!!

Can't wait for the snow!

Skiing is not, repeat, NOT a matter of life and death.
It's MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than that!

(But what do you expect from someone who's spent his night off from work surfing ski-related websites. In late June)
Welcome SnowMiser!

When I first started skiing I hated it. 5 years later, I tried it again and liked it a little better. I was frustrated because I wasn't that good. In the past 3 years I've really started to love it, and have gotten really good. I wasn't obsessed like I am now until about a year ago.

The one problem I have holding me back is that I also play hockey during the winter. I'm torn, since I love hockey almost as much as I love skiing. I want to be able to ski all the time, but I do not want to give up playing hockey-I was born with talent, and it would be a shame to waste it and quit for skiing. I do love hockey, I just wish I could do both easier. As it is I only get to ski about 10 times a year, which is ok, but I could do better.

To answer the question-skiing is very important to me, but there are just to many other things in my life that are just as important.

Although lacrosse takes place in the Spring and Summer, I have the same battle in my head. The wife and I do ski together, but we are hoping to start a family this fall. If all goes well she will be pregnant during the upcoming ski season and unable to ski. After a long a long ski season (hopefully), how do a justify playing lacrosse every week when my wife is pregnant/caring for an infant? For me its not choosing between sports, its making time for my wife and family. Right now I am anticipating taking next lacrosse season off. This would be the first year without lacrosse in 16 years.
