Edge breakage usually... But sometimes I come across deals I can't turn down..
I only ride Never Summer snowboards and they aren't a big company... So I have to get them when I can... I used to get used Burton boards from a friend that did demos... But he quit... And I really can't afford Burton stuff...

i find myself buying new skis every two years. over the past 7 years or so my preferences have changed from all groomers, to some bumps, to mostly natural, to prefer all natural and bumps and as such skis have been purchased accordingly. i think i'm pretty set on what type of skis i like and have at this point, but will probably keep getting other pairs of skis every two years as i am very hard on them and from here on out plan to ski 30-40 days a year.

boots i have only had four pairs in 20 years so i am averaging once every five years, but that's deceptive since my feet stopped growing one boot previous to my current.

everything else including poles, clothes, etc. gets replaced only when it wears out. i have had the same ski pants for 12 years. gloves lasted about 7. goggles about 5. jacket about 5. undergarmets and socks as needed. so it pretty much varies.

Depends.

I have had new skis 3 times in the last 4 years though. Before that I had a pair for 7 years (I still have them and ski them once in a while. They are 195cm, Volant FX 2.2's)

in 2002 I bought a pair of 175cm Elan Integra 6.0's (shaped skis for the first time), and let the sales man talk me into something too low for my ability. Later that season I got 177cm Rossi Bandit X's. I skied them the full season in 2003. Last year I wanted to go shorter so I got 161cm Volkl 6*'s. I skied them more than any other ski last year and so far this season.

They may not be a big company but they have a nice website.

I am sitting ugly right now when it comes to new equipment. I got a pair of USED skiis like 5-6 years ago, and haven't updated since. I bought new Raichle boots with them when I got them (kept the bindings, came with Marker 48s), so those are new, but the skiis are not. Being in college I haven't got money for new equipment, and neither do my parents, because they are paying for college lol. Guess I will have to wait until I am out of school. I've looked at some skiis though, and I really liked the Rossi
Zenith Z3 TPIs. How are Rossi bindings by the way?

upgrading equipment

I usually try and upgrade someting each year. This year I went for the warmth thing. New jacket, gloves, and boot heaters. The boot heaters are the best investment that I have ever made. Next year, probably will do new ski pants- mine are getting pretty well worn.

Boots as long as I can keep them due to comfort. My skis about every 100 days of skiing... every 2 years. I buy a new coat or pants or something every year depending on sales. My kids usually get new gear every 2 years due to growth.

The kids stuff becomes crazy expensive. Each year they need some type of new gear due to growth. Although In a few years it worth it to watch them point the skis down hill and go.

All my stuff's new (or 1 year old at most) because i just started skiing again last year. However, I'm a tech whore, so I try to grab cool stuff when I see a good deal. Ski-related or not.

You guys with kids shoudl check out TJ Maxx and Marshall's when they do their ski sales early season. Great deals, especially if you know what you want and need, and aren't too much of a slave to fashion.

Ski Fanatics in Campton Nh does a 50% trade in policy on kids equiptment. So they always have fairly well fitting stuff. The cost becomes a bit more manageable with a reasonable trade in policy.
Anyone ever trying to get some start up or used gear they have consignment stuff that they sell also They will also help sell your old gear on the consignment program. ( Props done. ) Clothes are another story, they get trashed or lose half the gear it seems, must run in the family. I appreciate the tips Thankx

Got all new gear in the 00/01 season as I had started skiing again. Don't want to retool all at once ever again. Ouch! This year I got boot warmers & ski pants. I did get AT boots 3 years ago that have now become my standard boot. Fitted both Rossi and Black Diamond skis with Titanal bindings when I got the boots.

Might buy a new jacket, glove hat/helmet and googles next year . Then following that year maybe look for a good deal on a pair of skis.

Not often enough...

Well, I have averaged new skis every season and a half (or so). The skis I've got now really need replacing as they have NO camber left. I'll get new ones towards the end of the season to get a deal. That's the best time to buy (IMHO).

Gloves will last me a season (at most) before wearing out. Doing the patrol thing is tough on gloves.

Poles are fine. Haven't upgraded them...ever.

Boots last a long time for me. I'm on my second pair in 8 (or so) years of skiing. The other boots just died on me. These seem to be fine.

For kids stuff - try out the ski swaps or Play it Again. My kids need new stuff most every year due to growth. I outfitted my son with Rossi Bandit X's and nice, high performance boots for $120 (used of course). Next year we'll probably sell them for $90. My daughter is even cheaper because she is younger and doesn't need higher performance stuff yet.

Used is the way to go, at least for kids!

For me - new skis every 70 days of skiing - however long that takes. However, I keep the old ones for bang around boards forever.

Alot of places do seasonal rentals. The shop I use (Ski fanatics) has a $ 100 season rental I believe. My daughters boots were $35 if we rented last year or $100 for purhase. We bought them cause I get half back when I upgrade. Looks like most parents do take a frugal approach. My bother bought his ski boots at play it again sports, he was very happy.
