If you are serious about racing..get a speedsuit..it will trim a second off your times right off the bat. When I raced in the ASRA go pro event at Tanglewood..I was the only person out of several dozen racers without a speedsuit and I felt like a gaper..

No one in my team wears them and it's about 50/50 altogether on race night. I finished 3rd in mens silver for my age group last season at WA. I was starting to knock out some golds consistently at the end of the season. If i start getting lots of gold plus' and think I can bump to platinum I'll bust out a suit. Plus I need to lose weight first, otherwise I'll look like an overstuffed sausage link!

As serious as I can be. All my free time and money go into it. Its an addication. We all want to look good when we make turns. I won't take a lesson and really lost the competive motivation to ski. I'm into it, but not competitive. My goal is to have fun as many times as possible.

and people think knee flags for bumpers are stupid.

I'd rather ski in burlap underwear then put on one of those uber tight form fitting nut showcasing body suits.

You're just upset that you, unlike me, don't have the physique to get away with wearing something like that... ;)

It is my greatest passion, but I don't take it very seriously. I'm really not that concerned with improving. i'm comfortable with not being as good as I once was knowing that to get back to that level I'd need to ski 100 days a season like I used to. If time allowed I would do that, but it doesn't, so I just focus on having as much fun as I can in the limited times I'm able to go.

those who have it don't have to flaunt it.

Rest assured, I was only kidding. My imposing 6' 165 lb frame looks pretty damn ridiculous in anything that is tight-fitting...

I purchased a pair of Circa 88 Descente Stretch Bib pants for gaper occasions this winter that look RIDICULOUS, which was the point. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to wear them and won't until I lose twenty pounds as they are a bit too tight. I tried them on and I look like the gaper wrestler from the 80's in the WFF that was only on stage to get pounded by one of the stars

Since I'm a former white trash wrestling fan, I believe those guys were called "jobbers." Perhaps we can work that term into skiing lingo somehow...

No, those sound just right. And if you split them open while skiing that would complete the gaper outfit. :-D

Well it's not for the whole day..just for a few runs..You'd be surprised how many people rock the suits for Thursday night Nastar at Blue mountain..I don't have a suit so I just drop down to my turtleneck..

Two seasons ago I caught the racing bug..but on days when my times were bad..I would be stressed out and pissed off...and it was taking the fun out of my skiing so aside from an occasional Nastar run I no longer race..

Racings is humbling every day, from the DFL (Dead F*cking Last) people right up to the winners, who know they made a mistake on the third gate and could have been faster. I've had Bernie Resch beat me by five seconds and listened to him say how much his run sucked. And it's really funny on the first day of an adult race camp, sitting in the lodge afterwards to watch your video. The most common thing people say after seeing themselves race for the first time is "My God, I am the worst skier ever. I quit.".

Racing is about the journey. You have to be in it for the long hall and be happy with reaching small goals on the way. There are almost always more bad days than good, which isn't for everyone....

Haha..I like wearing tightunderarmour because it's like a man girdle for me..it keeps the spare tire tight..lol..my diet starts tomorrow though so I shouldn't have that issue next season. Once I get skinny I'll be able to rock the mesh shirt..JEA!!!!

I don't think being serious about skiing means taking lessons and working on technique..it's more about how into the sport you are.

Do you need to ski the first weekend there is lift served skiing in the east?

Does the thought of missing a powder day kill you?

Do your friends understand why you aren't around much during ski season?

Do you ski in the rain?

Do you ski when there is only one trail open?

Do the liftees at the local hill say,"Are you always here"?

Do you think about skiing everyday?

If you were to win the lottery..would you quit your job and become a skibum?

Have you ever been a skibum?

Do you have ski posters on your walls?

I haven't given up on racing just yet...The course at Sno is actually a really good course to learn on...much better than the course at Blue for a novice racer. Ski9, in the summer do you think about running gates and nailing the perfect line? Earlier today I was thinking about skiing moguls. Wow I miss skiing..

Do you need to ski the first weekend there is lift served skiing in the east? Not usually, but sometime in November.

Does the thought of missing a powder day kill you? Doesn't "kill me", but I'm sure I'd rather be skiing, but that could be any day.

Do your friends understand why you aren't around much during ski season? I still make time for non-skiing friends and family in the winter.

Do you ski in the rain? Yep.

Do you ski when there is only one trail open? Sure.

Do the liftees at the local hill say,"Are you always here"? Not usually, but I'm starting to get to know some of the staff.

Do you think about skiing everyday? Yes.

If you were to win the lottery..would you quit your job and become a skibum? I would ski more, but I wouldn't ski bum.

Have you ever been a skibum? No.

Do you have ski posters on your walls? I haven't had poster on my walls since high school, but I do have a beer fridge in the basement adorned with skiing-related stickers. Does that count?

That counts...In a book I read recently it said men who are finished with college shouldn't decorate their apartments with posters...yikes..time to buy some Can Gohls..lol The steeziest ski poster on my wall is a guy on a steep slope in the Alps getting air with three hot air baloons in the background..
