I don't think that's a fair metric. Being geographically challenged or on a budget doesn't make someone less serious about skiing. The skier that puts in less than 50, but spent 14 of those days earning turns or heliskiing into some gnarley back country is prolly pretty serious. I think what you do when you ski (spending at least 5-6 hours on the slopes, not 2 on the slopes and 4 in the bar) is a better measure.
serious is a relative term. for me it means someone who makes the comitment to spend as much time on snow as possible. the bar metric is good one but it only applies to that day you are on the slope's. i am in now way saying you are less serious about sking than i am but i geared my life towards getting as many possible days on the snow as possible. wich is more of a comitment than you may be willing or not able to make. but you the hell cares we all share the some love of being on the snow and there is none so we debate about useless topics like this.
