Was warm. Mashed tater snow. Alot of people. Not enough trails. West side Clairs only open from Tower 8 and down. Got bored quickly. Skied from 8:30 until 2pm. Took my daughter snowtubing after skiing. 2 for 1 with the Big Lift card. Got bored with that too and was back on the road by 4. But it was better than working

Hows that for a trip report?? Hahaha.

Sorry i havent been around much lately....

Think SNOW!!!!

Bored? Wow, We pounded all of Clairs all afternoon in warm conditions. The morning was warm and Sunny and we hit Upper K to East Side and Cross Over. I even got some great runs down Racers. There were definitely some gapers out there today, put that is the norm on a Saturday.

I didn't think the crowd was too bad. It was the busiest I've seen it this year, but the Triples were basically ski on or a 2 chair wait. The snow may not have been plentiful, but skied well.

Those Snow Tubes seem to hate the warm weather more than boards. If it's warm they don't even make it to the bottom of the hill. Riding "D" Lift you can see people dragging their tubes to the bottom of the lift to go up again.

Upper K was sweet...Milky Way had a nice berm on it too.

Clairs with the HSQ impresses me after 30 years of skiing there. The lift just changes the nature of the resort and now it skis like it's much bigger than it is.

Jury still out on the quad..but it gets you up there quick as hell...

If they make snow on ALL of the West Side including Lower Taylor's and 44, it's good. (If that new snowmaking reservoir they got permits for gets built...). But otherwise it's too much traffic for the trails IMO....especially if they plan on turning Z on some of the holidays too.

Honestly, I don't think traffic is going to be an issue back there with the quad. The lift moves so fast that most skiers will be too tired out to ski back there more than a few runs.

There will be a congestion issue if they don't address the grade issue going to the new lift though. The thought of masses of people straightlining the bottom of Clairs to get back to the lift is pretty terrifying.

I don't see them turning Z unless the HSQ is down.

Was the west side ever particularly crowded, even before the new lift went in? I would be surprised if the new quad ever has a significant line, and I agree with JimG that Z Lift is unlikely to run unless the quad is down.

Yes, there is a grade issue. I'll be trying it again this weekend, but last time I lost too much speed and had to skate uphill to the load point. They probably need to add some fill at the bottom of Claire's, to even it out.

I think the bad snow year has impacted their plan re: the runout to the lift.

I think the plan is to blow lower 44 and use the old cutover to Y lift from Clairs as the access to the HSQ.

And yes there were days when the west side was crowded, but more because Z lift got crowded. Sometimes Y lift would be open and people would go stand in line at Z when you could ski onto Y.

Yes, bored. Sorry if i am not the epic skier like you are. I was with my daughter who is a bit timid on Clairs unless conditions are very good as she suffered a bad concussion at Plattekill last February and gets nervous. We did every other trail there multiple times. Skied from opening bell until 2pm with 30 minutes for refueling. :)

Which is about right...if you leave after 2pm the traffic is murder...
I heard they burnt the motor out on the Z...
