Hunter and Windham hired a lobyist for over $100,000 to fight Belleayre. They could of put that money to better use building more snowmaking or chairlifts

most likely a calculated investment.

No inside info on this, but doesn't Plattekill make a lot more money from its mountain biking? Every time I've been there during the mtb season, the parking lot is full.

That is their main money maker for sure. It would be great if they could ramp up their snowmaking though. It's a great little mountain.

Wow!

Hey GSS, where were you at Belleayre today? We didn't see you.

Hunter closed because it might rain. I've got a wicked sunburn from skiing bumps all day. So much for that excuse.

Hunter closed because they didn't want to open for a few season passholders to ski. It's a business decision. And to be objective you can't kill them for it.

But I know alot of passholders are pissed as hell. It can be viewed as a slap. It certainly wasn't passholder/customer appreciation day. Which it was at Belleayre yesterday. $15 tickets.

A page from the POWDR management book. Odd PR and I don't see how they come out of this looking good. Plenty of snow left to ski on. People were laughing today at Belleayre.

Where it really was a mint spring day.
I had a great time.

Don't Hunter managers/owners post here sometimes? I'm guessing only for their benefit?

You can reward the areas that extend their season by spending money. I wonder if hunter will lose some passholders next year. Length of season is definately something to look hard at when buying a pass, cheap passes are not always good (for me anyways) if the season is short.

This was being talked about at Belleayre today. I'll bet a lot of Hunter regs where here today. I saw the older guy with the looooooong white beard, a long time Hunter reg, making his way down belleayre run.
But they will get at least one more visit from us this month...TAP NY on the 27th.

One of my favorite New York Times articles ever. Even during *that* season, Hunter didn't go too far into April:

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9D0CE4DA1331F937A25757C0A9679C8B63&sec

Seems like it was written as a fluff story but still interesting. Maybe that should at least partially discredit all the people out there screaming about profitable late season skiing. Not many resorts lasted more then early/mid april during, statistically, the snowiest winter on record for many of those same resorts. I remember vividly going to bromley in early april. Their 2nd to last day open. There was so much snow just on Rt 11 driving up it was up to the roofs on some lower homes.

Ahh Hunter.............creating mountain memories............ONE FROWN AT A TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:daffy:

be easy on them..they made the right call..since rain was predicted 4 days in advance..they could have been sued by a skier who got wet and had hypothermia..lol
