It will be interesting to read Jim's take on this. I'm being the pot stirrer now, but Jim advocated quite a bit for Killington last summer.

Maybe Hunter is trying to prove Belleayre's "unfair advantage" again.

Of course this would upset me to no end. Nothing compares to the great time we had on Clairs and X Over last weekend.
thats what sucks about this... the mountain is in such great shape! Claires... Xover... K27...
We were even dabbling in the woods off of Wayout...
this is killin me...
What happened to JimG..he used to be a postwhore on here..
Painfully... I mean "Gainfully Employed"....
I guess this comment is a little tongue in cheek seeing as Im not living on the east coast anymore, but is this really that suprising? Its the middle of April people, mtns are going to close. Frankly, Hunter does a damn good job in staying open as late as they do for a mtn that gets under 100" annual snowfall. I know that you guys have a lot of snow hanging around back there, but really, its April 12th. Thats a pretty good run for that hill if you ask me.
Hunter is the snowmaking capital of the east..and they used to have a reputation for staying open late...now Belleayre beats them every year..
Not any more Belleayre is now the snow making capital...kinda the little mountain that could and does.
Make no mistake about it, Hunter has more fire power like no other when it comes to snowmaking. If you follow Nov/Dec trail openings, Hunter can put down more white asphalt and open more trails than Belleayre. Belleayre tries to start early on just a few trails and with lots of steady persistents eventually catches up to Hunter's number of trails opened. Belleayre is very smart about the way they make snow and the way they manage their trail conditions. A good snow maker can make wet white asphalt or champagne powder that you would die for. Its all about the air/water mix. Putting down a few inches of champagne powder on the mogul trails is something that Belleayre does more often than most ski areas. On the other hand, I have skied many times over the years mid week on Hunter's Clairs in a foot of new man made snow and it was about as good as it gets on the east coast. Not any more Belleayre is now the snow making capital...kinda the little mountain that could and does.
