Wow, I go away for a week and look what happens. Good to see Hunter being defended, as it should be. It's old rep is just that, old. I ski it on Mondays so I don't even know what it's like on the weekends anymore. All I find on Mondays are hardcore skiers and boarders who know the place well and ride it well. If anyone would like to see what it's all about I'm sure we will have some meet ups there.

Doug, nice job catching the angle on the third picture.
Totally unintentional... Hellgate does have a nice pitch to it... A great trail to GS... But somehow I always get drawn into the rock drops at the top...

Hellgate is a great trail to start a top to bottom bomber run, on a weekday that is. My wife hates it though. She's been hit 3 times on it, last time she was the only one on it and the guy launched and landed on her, almost killed her. The cliff is her favorite.

Definitely more so. Belt is a death trap.

I met my boss and his 2 sons at Hunter one weekend. Solid intermediates at best. We stayed over on B lift for most of the day, but they begged to go to the top. I warned them!

We got about halfway down Belt and stopped on the edge of the trail. I had my back to the traffic and my boss and his sons were tucked up against the edge. I was trying to protect them. They simply didn't understand.

A person (sliding tool of choice unidentified to protect the innocent) somehow managed to barge between me and my group. They were travelling at least Mach 2. After they had cleared our area, I saw my boss and his oldest son. But all that was left of his younger son were his skis!

This idiot had hit my bosses son so hard he took him right out of his bindings! The skis were still there, sitting parallel in the snow. My bosses son was crying and his attacker was moaning in pain and holding their shoulder. I brought the poor boy his skis and talked him down off of his fear. He was OK and there was no permanent damage. He was skiing and laughing again soon after.

I left the criminal in a heap. That crap disgusts me.

Maybe this is why it doesnt make lists...Ski areas that require a fair amount of "locals" knoweldge often dont make lists...its the areas that are "newbie" friendly and whatnot that makes lists..

But in the end who cares about lists....??? its really what you like and where you feel comfortable skiing...not what some list tells you...I dont pay attention to lists or movie reviews or anything of that nature....I make my own decisions and/or do my own "hands on" research.
