Longest in the world -

The Town of Hunter planning board discussed and approved this!!!

The first phase (of three) which would be the challenge (obstacle) course near the base lodge could be completed by end December weather permitting.

The next phases are to be built in the spring. The zip line course from the top of the mtn will be the longest in the world consisting of six zip lines zig-zagging 3 miles and terminating near the top of "C" lift.

They are studying installing parallel zip lines so two can zip along side by side but independently.

The courses will be open 365 days a year employing about 25 people during lift hour operations subject to weather conditions. They will provide a small fleet of back-up six wheel drive army type all terrain vehicles which can transport 12 people at a time up or down the mtn in the event of lift failure - not that that would ever happen!! sic.

Heavenly put in one of these a few years ago: http://www.skiheavenly.com/mountain/heavenly_flyer/. It looks fun, although they charge a ton for it, and it is a little obnoxious to have people whizzing overhead while you're skiing. Fortunately at Heavenly its on a lift that doesn't get a ton of use other than to facillitate transport between different portions of the resort.

I'm surprised that they plan to run this 365 days a year at Hunter. I would have assumed it would be mostly a summer attraction.

Can you ride it with your skis on, and then drop when you want to? Because that would be frakkin' awesome.

Catskillman, where/how did you hear of this??
The Heavenly Zip Line has speeds up to 50MPH. By the time your going that fast you toward the bottom of the mountain where your probably have green trails. If you could drop off the Zip Line you would be doing 50MPH on a green trail. Given none of this has anything to do with reality, I added the paint ball gun to kick up the fun meter to the ridiculous.

My only question, is in Winter...where do the people go from the top of the C lift? On foot, that's still a long walk back to the lodge.

It is the talk of the town and has been in the newspapers.

It will be called NY Zip Line Adventure Tours & will include a zip line course, a canapy tour course and a challenge course.

Hunter has entered into an agreement with an Int'l Eco Tour Company (Canopy Tours Inc. - New York Zips) to set up zipline canopy tours on the mtn.
There will be a zipline tour starting from the top, a canopy tour from midway and a challenge course at the base. Once permits are secured it will take 3 -4 months to install and train personnel. The zip lines will start from the edge of the cliff somewhere near the Rip Van Winkle sculpture and zig zag down the mtn via a series of zips over the gulley to the skiers right of K-27 and end somewhere near the top of Mossy Brook. The canopy tour will be located between Hunter One and Mossy Brook over the stream. The challenge course will be set up between the base lodge and the Liftside Condos / D-lift.

...early AMs...

What a way to get to the top as an AM single.....on a powder day
Not exactly 50mph, but just in the 25mph range..with 20' of glide @top would work fine. Fast enough to keep the Gucci-skiers at the traditional chairs.

And then start on Memorial day weekend..

According to the article there still some watershed issues... What else it new..?
