I can't believe I'm the only one...

that wants to go skiing Saturday. I thought this site would be loaded with people skiing Tucks and associated Mt. Washington gullies. I figured if I would find someone that shared my passion for spring skiing it would be in this forum.

Has everyone forgotten about Spring Skiing. Sure - its been unusually warm, but that makes for a great hike. Skiing is just the icing on the cake. What about taking a hike and skiing the 500-800 verticle feet of snow still left. Yes, there is snow still on Mount Washington and plenty of it.

Isn't there someone out there that wants to avoid that crowd that Tucks is going to draw. There could be 5000 people in the ravine. I rather take my chances and be one of 5 that might be in the Gulf.

Doesn't anyone agree?

Gulf Update

Yes, I did go and it was amazing. As it turned out I wan't the only one up there. there were about 30 - 40 people. Most of whom I passed on the way down.

I was on the trail by 6:30 am. It took about 2 1/2 hours to get to base of Gully number one which I considered skiing. They were a couple guys who camped their and said Gully Number 2 wider so I headed their. When I arrived I was the only one climbing up. When I got about half way two boarders and a guy on shorties came down.

The conditions were fantastic, three inches of soft corn. Post holing on the ski trail was a problem, I wish I had snowshes as the snow was not good enough for skins.

All in all a great day. The solo experience was nice because I could go at my own pace, but I'd definately like to find a group to ski with in the future.

I'll be posting pictures later in the week.

Hey Kevin - How about registering ? That way any new posts you make will be associated with your username and your post count will begin.

I will register as I have used this site frequently this year. I do wish more people would use forums like this. Usage seems to be pretty sparse on this forum and TimeforTuckerman forum. I think backcountry skiers tend to keep to themselves. Thats the very reason we like the backcountry, to avoid the crowds. I'd love to see a real backcountry ski club start in New Hampshire. One where beginners could learn from the more experienced. It seems the only way to learn the skills needed you have use a guide. Quite frankly, if I spent $200 on one guided trip I just spent my whole winter budget. Seriously. I'd like to learn from people willing to organize and lead day hikes without the exspense of a guide. Thats one of the reasons I avoid the lift served areas. I'd rather spend my money on buying the right equiptment.

I really have very little experience in the backcountry. My Gulf of Slides trip was only my third, and first of AT gear, although I really did not use it as such. The conditions made skinning impossible.

If you would like to talk further please email me at yahoo.com@kpfarrar(backwards so the spam crawlers don't get my address).

I like communicating with people who share my interest in bc skiing.

By the way nice job on the site. It is one of the best I have seen. Just wish it was more popular in terms of use. What do you do to promote it? I have a background in Marketing - Maybe I can help
