the 04-05 ski season has ended for me. Weather caused us to bail on our last planned trip to Tucks last weekend, and my motivation to drive the distances needed to get to hikeable snow is spent.

My pain is great :( .

Sorry to hear that... So I guess you not up for a Tucks trip in June? I hear the GG is kicking right now...

Still a nice 50 yard shot on Hellgate at Hunter!

Seems like your still stuck in the depression stage. Acceptance will come soon enough. Then anticipation for next season!

Perhaps hospice care for a terminally ill ski season?

Recommend analgesic: Tequila boluses, PRN

Yeah, saw some pics of Airplane Gully last weekend and it looked really good. Part of the reason I bailed on Tucks last weekend was the long drive though, a sure sign my motivation to get to snow is pretty much gone.

Can't complain about the season though, more than 10 days longer on snow than last season. Also, my last day last year was April 16 and I made it to May 12 this year. Even better, it's the first season since my injuries that I ended my last day with no discernible pain anywhere.

If 50 yards of snow was available pretty much outside my back door like you I wouldn't have any excuses though.

I like your thinking...we need to hook up and ski some next season.

Quite a few folks here I would extend that invitation to in fact.

I do need to stop being so anti-social and ski on weekends. Next season, my wife will be home, so I might be able to get out for a Saturday or Sunday.

I have a couple of trips left, but the end is near. Denial is currently where I hang my hat!

What's the best way to hike and ski that DMC? Hike up the belt? I"ve never been to Hunter when lifts weren't running.

Eisenhower to mid-station then up Hellgate is most direct; up Belt is more mellow.

Jim, I can relate. I still haven't said "this is my last weekend skiing this season." Going up to K this weekend and going to hike for turns on Sunday and sadly on Sunday I will be saying "this is my last day skiing this season," since it is the last weekend that we have our house. I'm starting to feel the pain.

Ah, but before we know it it will be Fall again and the anticipation of making turns will be sweet! How was SS this weekend?

Picked up the fishing rod and ventured into my creek yesterday...caught a few decent sized trout. Also found out there is a copperhead nest in my stretch of river bank. Saw the snake sunning itself on a log.

Guess I have to teach the kids about poisonous snakes now :-? !

Didn't get up to K until Saturday afternoon but heard that SS was sweet and well worth the hike. Few others said it was a shame they didn't have the lift going. I didn't ski on Sunday but did hike up SS a bit to take some photos of some of the folks skiing. Again for Sunday, they said the hike was well worth it. AndyZee and RustyK could prolly add to this since they "hiked for turns."

Yes, I have since seen several trip reports. It's a crime they closed with all of that snow, it's almost worth the 3 hour drive for me to hike to get some last turns.

Here's a pic taken on Sunday.

The snow did seem sweet when I was hiking up SS. I believe the top portion of SS is pretty much gone now 'cause of the rain on Sunday a.m.

I was one of those that hiked all three days last weekend. It was worth hiking for some turns especially on Saturday when the snow was simply wonderful. The other days the snow was a bit set up because of the rain during the night but it was still enjoyable to ski.
