NWA is still cheapest...and when booked through their own site. It seems that every time I've priced it out, it always works out that way. Thanks for the tip though.
agreed. I took nwa to Minneapolis a few weeks ago. I could have saved $1.50 on priceline, but the restrictions weren't worth $1.50

When we traveled NWA in January, we didn't have to pay any baggage fees.
When My Inlaws traveled NWA Feb 17th, they didn't have to pay baggage fees.
I'm thinking that they are rethinking the baggage fees.
Are you all enrolled in WorldPerks Elite? No baggage fees for members of that.

:D Awwwww, thanks! :D

I actually just checked my miles and it says I have elite qualifying miles but when I tried to check something for elite members, it said I'm not (which I wouldn't imagine I would be with only one flight).

WorldPerks Elite Status
The 2008 Elite program runs from March 1, 2008 through February 28, 2009. To achieve or retain your Elite status for the 2009 program year and upgrade your membership during 2008, simply earn the required number of Elite Qualifying Miles or Elite Qualifying Segments listed below between January 1 and December 31, 2008.

Elite Status Elite Qualifying Miles Elite Qualifying Segments
Platinum Elite 75,000 100
Gold Elite 50,000 60
Silver Elite 25,000 30

If, before year end, you earn either the number of miles or the number of segments for Elite membership, we'll upgrade your status one business day after the qualifying flight is posted to your account. We'll then mail your new credentials within four weeks of the status upgrade.

Elite Qualifying Miles
Elite Qualifying Miles are earned from:

* Credited flight miles on Northwest, Delta, KLM and other Elite qualifying carriers.
* The 50% Elite qualifying bonus earned for paid First/World Business ClassSM travel.
* The 50% Elite qualifying bonus earned on NW Y/B fares in Economy class.
* Up to 20,000 Elite qualifying miles per year can be earned with WorldPerks Visa Signature Card purchases.

Elite Qualifying Segments
Members who don't necessarily travel far in distance to earn mileage but fly frequently can qualify for Elite status based on the number of segments flown. All paid fare classes eligible to earn WorldPerks miles on Northwest or any of our Elite Qualifying Airline Partners will count toward your Elite Qualifying Segments (EQS) for the 2009 program year.

For more information on earning Elite Qualifying Miles and Elite Qualifying Segments on Airline Partners, visit the Airline Partner page.

For the record, I have 3486 qualifying miles. Guess I won't attain that this year.

I stand corrected. When you add in $80 in baggage fees ($15 for the 1st bag, $25 for the 2nd, each way... and last year I could not get them to count the pair as the alloted ski bag + boot bag), Southwest comes out cheaper. But that site you posted, billski, does not include fares for Southwest so it's a little deceiving.

So...
Southwest: $270.40 w/taxes
Northwest: $317 w/taxes and baggage fees (plus you pay for food on the flight if you want any)

Southwest wins... and is still cheaper than last year. $50 for just flight, $100 when you count baggage fees I paid.

(Trekchick's photo, BTW...)

I like what I'm hearing about NWA! Heck, I'd sleep on the couch again if I had to. It was pretty comfy anyway. :D

Carrie, how many batteries does that jacket take?

Tonight I was thinking about taking my first ever trip out west. I'm getting a layoff soon with a generous severance package and I've already had a couple job offers. I'm thinking about using some of my severance for a ski trip. I'm sure I could convince a few people from our ski house to go.

It's still in a "dreaming about it" stage. I still have to decide if I'm taking a job now and if they'll give a couple weeks before I start. But they're contacting me before I'm even laid off so I'm in the driving seat.

 That was part of my gaper attire, which most of us wore on the 2nd ski day of that trip. You definitely can't lose a person wearing that jacket!

If you can get out there, I highly recommend it. Even though I am not a great skier, and was even less when I went last year while pretty fresh off of my knee injury, the experience is one that I will treasure for a lifetime. It is so different than skiing here, and if you go with a great group of friends, that helps all the more. I'm glad to hear you have another job lined up; now take the reigns and get that bit of fun in before you start over somewhere new! ;)
