Since it's Friday, humor me a little.

Since I probably visit more ski areas in my mind (and online) then in reality, this topic came to mind. If you could be dropped at any mntn for a couple of days in late February, what would be your top three.

With Travel Considerations taken out of the mix, it's not surprising my 3 are Western (no disrespect to Eastern Skiing 8)

Grand Targhee - because of the snow
Fernie - looks cool and undiscovered
Sun Valley - I know the snow totals aren't like the other two, but I think the girls would love it.

 Happy Friday

If I could be beamed back, too, I'd want to go to some massive snowfield on, say, Mt Everest. Beam to the top of the run dressed, beam back from the bottom. Are there any mountains in the polar icecaps of Mars? 'Cause that'd be cool, too. To add a terrestrial one to my three, I'd say something like Whistler, since it takes as long (if not longer) to fly there than to the Alps.

Great Question

Chamonix - Because of the tour arrangements one of my idoit travel companions made, we were only able to ski here one day. I want to go back and get my fill.

Kicking Horse - People who I trust who have been there tell me it's kick ass.

Silverton - Based on what I've read. Any AZers ever been?

People....you're not thinking straight.....

....first you get beamed to Charlotte Moats' place, show her your superpowers, propose, and beam you and her to Vegas for a quickie wedding....

Then you pull out your satellite enabled Powerbook G5 and start tracking that white stuff we like to talk about here....

Then, based on that information, you start zipping through portals in the space time continnum (with your young wife at your side) to where the freshies are....

I'd have to say that I'd be much more likely to go to off-piste spots than to resorts....

:dunce:

P.S. Fernie hasn't been too much of a secret for about 15 years now.....

1 - Zermatt. I've said this many times here, if you're a serious skier you simply have to go there once.

2 - Whistler. All those raving trip reports can't be wrong.

3 - Tahiti. I hear the water skiing is terrific!!

I vote for targhee. Day after a dump, bluebird, first chair to last, beers in the Trap. That's all you can ask for.

In the east, sparse crowds and powder at Jay.

I'm going to vote with what I know.

1. Top of Mansfield alone, blue skies with endless views behind me to the Adirondacks and straight away to the Presidentials. 2 feet of powder and first tracks down the north face and out to hell brook. Followed by a run down Tusk on the other side of the Notch. I actually got to do this during the winter of 2000-2001 - best two runs of my life.

2. Aspen Highlands, me, a couple of friends and Imperial Bowl all to ourselves.

3. A-Basin - just me, a couple of friends and the Pallavicini chair

Hmmmm, interesting question.

I would go to the area I keep dreaming about (an imaginary area, but I'd make it real). It would have ample snow year round. There would be plenty of variety, so I would never get bored. There would be one lift for each brand and type of lift ever made, including the more obscure lifts. It would be open 24 hours a day. I would own a condo with all the amenities imaginable. The area would never be crowded and I'd always ski right up to the lift of my choice.
Oh, to dream!

Well, no exactly, but it's close in terms of the ridiculous level of amenities that the captains of industry demand. Warren Miller is their ski concierge, for heaven's sake....

I remember reading about Yellowstone club a few years back.

I wonder what the membership costs are for those elitist who have the priviledge of skiing such 'private powder'.

The land of the skiing iluminati it must be.

Well, since it's August, New Zealand gets my vote. Going to do it next summer, but not looking forward to the plane ride. Beaming there would be nice, especially if I still got the frequent flyer miles.
