It'll be fine provided they groom after the rain. In past experience (and believe me, I've had many days there post rainstorm) some of the best snow was the frozen granular after a rainstorm.

True they are excellent groomers. Sometimes a little too good . . .

Looks like they are going to get a couple inches today with a topping of sleet. Some rain on Thursday. Friday will be an ice rink. Snowmaking weather back on Friday night, so Saturday/Sunday look like good days to get out.

Saturday is looking very good indeed. Packed and ready to roll.

Trails for Friday:

Conifer
Indian Summer
Ollies

No 10th... maybe for Sunday or Monday though. Shouldn't be long. Also, for any of you without passes, the rates are up on the home page. Something like $29 for a single day. Besides a storm early next week, the weather looks great for snowmaking after tomorrow.

3 out of 6 for hitting the Friday after Thanksgiving since 2002 (which was November 8th opening, then reopen for the normal day). Not bad for the average temps this time of year.

I'm kind of nervous right now.

The snow report and automated phone both insist that opening day is in fact tomorrow, however the website hasn't been updated since yesterday and the phone report says "we are opening this Friday" instead of "we are opening tomorrow" which to me means it hasn't been updated since yesterday either. When I looked at the webcam today, nothing after the mouth of Conifer had been groomed and there isn't enough down there to cover everything unless they bring it down from the trail. I wish they would keep us updated on tomorrow but I guess not...

I'm watching it. I live 15 minutes away, so no big deal either way, but it would be my first time out this season and I wanted to use the opportunity to check out some new gear before I commit to a "real" mountain somewhere. I'm not feeling real ambitious right now, so if they don't open tomorrow I'll just spend the time at the range tomorrow doing some sighting in and plinking, and hit Crotched on Saturday.

Well, the snowmaking weather will be exemplary over the next three days at least, so I'll more than likely be up there early next week evening.

I'll be up Saturday afternoon. 2ish. I know, but its the benefit of having a pass and being 20 mins away. Just need to shake the cobwebs off. I don't want to get to Hunter on the 14th without having skied and get may ass whooped by all you early season addicts.

I just got back. A little scraped up on the 2nd Conifer headwall, but really not too bad. Lines weren't bas either -- the parking lot was filed up to about row 7 when I left. No lift line to speak of on the summit lift.

I've been skiing 4 seasons now downhill, and I started in telemark. On a whim, I bought an alpine setup to mess around with this season. I did one run on the things -- how the hell do you people put up with that stuff?? My feet were destroyed in the walk from the car to the lift, and I missed my tele setup. So, I went back to the car, put on my Syner-G boots, and hiked up Old Indian Trail and did a run down. Eeeeeeesh!

I also skied WaWa tonight. Only did 4 runs down Indian Summer, but that was enough (legs are killing me). It's going to be a long December getting myself back into shape!

Conditions were good, snow was surprisingly good for opening day especially after yesterday's high temperatures.

I'll be hitting the slopes again tomorrow night. Hopefully I manager more than 4 runs before my legs give out!

they're getting there!

I was at Wachusett Friday and Saturday. When I left today at 2 they were pretty close to opening Tenth. I bet it will be open tommorow or Monday. They are absolute magicians with snow making and grooming.

The snow report says lower 10th is open, upper 10th isn't yet (how tf do they do that?... the road is downhill from 10th to Conifer, not the other way around, plus upper 10th had way more snow yesterday). Either way, the entire thing looks ready for tomorrow. Hopefully it survives the rain Monday and Tuesday.

I went this afternoon. Was boarding lift for first run around 3 pm. Just did laps on conifer which was pretty skied off, but the right side was really nice with a little powder and some mini bumps. Lots of the school kids started showing up around 4 pm and it got kinda crowded so I packed it in after 6 runs. 10th Mountain was getting there, maybe tomorrow? Parts of it were still a cat track. I don't know what the deal with lower 10th was. Listed as open, but with no real way of getting there and it had guns going on it.

Nice to finally get out and ski. Really happy about my new boots too.

Anyone know if anything's up with Minuteman? Usually at least Challenger is open by now and if it isn't, they've at least started on it... very odd to see them hitting 10th, Sundowner, etc without hitting anything on Minuteman.

Nothing going on today. Challenger they'll need by January when racing starts. They probably figure they've got time this year. But I'd be surprised if they didn't move over there once 10th is all set.

was there from 830 - 12 noon today. Conifer was super scratchy/scraped off in the middle, but the edges were not bad. They were pushing piles on 10th mtn trail when we left. the runout of lower 10th was open.

We will be back again tomorrow from 8 - 11 or so. Gotta make that silver pass worth it!

I'll be the guy in the flat black Giro helmet with the dayglo nordica supercharger boots, blue old solstice jacket.

One of my insiders told me Friday that the lift is down, and he's pulling his hair out trying to figure out why it's not top priority to get the thing operational with the start of the season happening.
