Is It Worth Going to Giants Stadium Sale This Week?

Hi AZers,

Princeton Ski shops is claiming on the radio and their website that their 4-day sale Wed. thru Sat. at Giants Stadium this week will have skis etc. priced at or below cost. I'm looking to buy a whole setup, skis, boots, and poles. Rather than trek there and be disappointed I thought I should ask here, is this sale really what they say it is? I think they have them annually, so I'd bet some of you have been.

Also, I'm 6' 1/2'' 170-175lbs. While in Colorado last week I rented parabolic 160s (K2 Comanches). I'm basically a beginner but I see myself advancing fast. I'm hearing I should get a longer ski. K2 makes this one in 167 and 174. Should I go all the way to 174 or just go up one to 167. On the one hand I don't want to spend money on skis I'll only use 1 year then grow out of, on the other I don't want to buy skis that I can't handle.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Greenie.

I told my wife yesterday that I'm tempted to go, she slapped me upside the head. It's been a big waste of time for us the last couple of years. We did purchase our first pair of skis there which we outgrew in about 1.5 seasons. I find that princeton doesn't have the best selection of quality items to begin with, they have even less at this sale. That's just my opinion, you may think otherwise.

Go with the longer skis.

Honestly I have to agree with most of the previous posts, however for beginners it may be beneficial to go here as most of the stuff they sell there as far as equipment goes is beginner level stuff. Some good prices can be found.

just my .02 ;-)

Price-wise for equipment, I don't think you do better there than at your typical end-of-season sale at your local shop, so if you can wait I'd do that. The local shop is also probably better equipped to give you real customer service after your purchase.

The plus side to a Princeton/Ski Barn type Giants Stadium sale is the pure volume of stuff like gloves, underwear and socks. I like to use it as an opportunity to buy back-ups for that kind of thing....

Take care of your local businesses, and they may take care of you. I totally agree with Mitchmac.

I agree. My local shop has done right by me. I've purchased boots, skis, poles, custom foot beds, and have all of my tuning done there. So far they have stretched out the toe box on one of my boots, added a lift in the other, and adjusted my binding at no cost to me. I know they guys buy name. Last year they gave me heads up on sales. The service is top notch and this is their career. It seems that some of the bigger shops have more turnover in their staff or kids looking to score deals on their own gear. But that's not to say that their can't be a kick-ass sales person at Pedigree or another big shop. I talked to the guys at my shop and created a rapport before I made my first purchase there.

I went last night with a specific focus on buying my lady new ski\snowboarding pants for Vail.. ended up finding a great deal after sorting through most of the rubbish. The way you have to go into this particular sale is know exactly what you want and leave. If you plan on buying a ski\snowboard there, DO RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. Most of the standout skis and boards they offer packages on resembles what they have mostly in stock. Knowing your level and what you want will make or break your experience there.

Rider's right, that sale is rubbish unless you know exactly what you're going in for, buy it, then leave- or for beginners who just need some basic stuff to beat up on for a couple of seasons. Save your pennies and hit the tent sales this September.
