Joshua, i gotta say... after all this hype and all of us jumping on you and PH21 about ski areas that are not going to open earlier than planned, i am now right with you and betting something is going to happen before october is over. cheers brother!

but i gotta say, who could have ever guessed this happening? WMO is currently reporting october has been the highest precip month ever. also this is the snowiest october on record and there is still nearly a week left! holy cow!

congrats on first turns! hard to believe they came in 10" of pow at snowshoe, wow. what a statistical improbability this october is. even though credit is being given for sticking to your guns, i think we all gotta realize how completely improbable this all is. perhaps only once in a life time event even. i mean, mount washington doesn't set the types of records it has been breaking very often and it's fair to say i doubt most people remember this much natural snow in october ever.

Even if someone does open I'd rather earn my turns than dodge the masses of people at an opening weekend. Unfortunately I can't go this weekend, but next weekend if the snow is still around I'll be hikin for sure.

I still say any point after 72 hours of snow making would allow for an opening. I still believe an opening will be mid week. A natural snow base without the ground fronzen would be a concern, How long could it holp up? A snow making base would hold up better.
I again hope I'm wrong. Opening day will be crowded mid week allows for extra dollars. Weekend opening would be busy no matter what. My opinions. I voted no.

If they do open this weekend. I don't see temps really cold enough for alot of snow making if any.

You rock Greg! Thanks for the news! I like the "will likely"..... sounds better than "might," "maybe," etc.

I am so tempted to take a ride up early Saturday morning.

Well, to be fair, the word, "may" was used. But my inclination is the comment would not have been made at all if it wasn't "likely".

Starting to make snow and actually opening the lifts are two very different things. No doubt the fact they are considering making snow is great news.

Whether or not they are doing it to actually open or to start laying down a base is another issue.

Can anyone post a long range forecast through next week?

Bummy, chances are we'll drive up Friday and come back Saturday if you want to hitch a ride. That is if they announce an opening ofcourse.

After all your hype the past week, I would hope you find a ride up there for opening day. I also expect a detailed TR and pics upon your return... ;)

well, when hype comes true, what do you call it?

Regardless of anything else, I PREDICTED this storm would be huge at least a day before people started catching on

If they are open, I will get up there, ski, take pics, and post a very detailed report

Thanks dog! The temperature moderation next week is a real problem. Won't be at the summits, but K will not open without top to bottom coverage. It's going to be tough to make snow with the current temps and, especially, humidity from mid-mountain down, leave alone when temps rise into the 40's.

With some luck and colder temps than predicted, K may open late next week or next weekend at the earliest.
