ok, keeping with the SNL references, how important is your outfit? Is function the most important, or form or both. Are you a matching jacket, pants, boots, poles, gloves etc kind of skier?

I only ask this hokey question cause i think i've hit rock bottom myself. I think i might have to put some thought into this next year.

I thought this was going to be a technique question...:wink:

I'd like for people to think I have decent technique (although I don't yet), but I could care less about how my ski outfit looks...just needs to be functional.

i knew a girl once who walked into a ski shop to buy new skis. She went up to the sales guy ask for a pair of white skis. she had a completely white ski outfit and wanted her skis to match.

I try to not look like a total hack. At the end of the day, it's really not that important, I guess. Sometimes seeing a dirtbag ripper like 2knees is inspiring. ;)

If you can't ski, you might as well look cool. I bought boots because they match my jacket and boot bag.

If the clothing is functional enough so that I'm NOT thinking about the elements when I'm on the hill that's fine and dandy with me. As for coordinated, generally speaking if it's of a darker color nature, that's 98% of what I'm looking for - this is where the vanity issue might come into play since I like the darker colors because they're less likely to show dirt/chairlift grease/sap burns/snot-sicle crust/ etc! :) ;)

I used to ski on Yellow Atomic Slalom race skis with Green Atomic supercross boots and then have either a blue or red jacket and orange/red Leki poles lol. Function matters to me a hell of a lot more.

i'll take form over fashion. However, i do own 5 different ski jackets of varying colors. i'm partial to my new orange North Face shell.

More seriously now, it's plenty easy to find equipment that's both functional and fashionable. I'm in the market for a helmet that will most likely end up being gray or green (I like Smith's Tank color,) and I'm thinking about getting another pair of ski pants that are a little more distinguishable than my current dark grey pants for when I'm up north and would just be a poser with my bump pants. The upside of having a distinct style is that it makes it easier for people to pick you out in a crowd.

The 183 Bros are a dead give-away in the coral. A liftly last weekend was like (in a joking manner) "if im stealing a pair of skis, its gonna be those!"

I feel the stuff I wear now is badass, very technical and I like that. My latest skis, by total accident, match the outfit perfectly. An older woman on the chairlift checks me out and says "Back in the eighties we used to call people with matching ski clothes "Jojos"". I thought that was very funny and I'm working into my ski vocabulary.

i wish i was a dirtbag ripper. Paint stained t-shirt, windpants and orange gloves are more like hobo jag-off!!!!

more exclamation points.
