thanks thats what i needed to know. i dont hold much stock in mt reports .thats why i asked. it dosnt sound any better up there so back to gore. hawkeye ,tomorrow?

Just got back from the mountain. I have to say I was somewhat impressed by conditions. The roped trails had decent coverage. There were some dangerous spots. Taxi was like bumper cars. It is still snowing, has most of the day. Probably 4-6 inches and still going. Nice small flakes. Ovrall better than expected.

Ask yourself this question: would you invest your entire weekend, potentially leave your family behind, and driving 800 miles and 14 hours, put the miles on your car, spend $75 in gas, $50 in lift ticket and $100 in lodging to ski 20 trails of dust on crust for 7 hours? For me, its just too much of a sacrifice. That is why I will be driving over to Blue Mountain, PA for some night skiing next week instead. 4 hours of driving and $16 lift ticket is simply a better option at this point.
as a "local" myself, for the last few weeks i have been shaking my head at where some of the plates in the jay peak lot have been coming from. you can check my last few trip reports. jay in december was hardly worth a one hour drive from StJ let alone a 4 hour drive from boston or 6-7 from NJ. the snow this past week really helped... a lot. but if you just want to ski groomers, man oh man, there are better places to be.

agreed better than expected today. taxi was crazy! towards the end of the day they roped the last section of taxi forcing beginners and intermediates down a dangerously thin cover lower can am. i saw a lot of lower level skiers and boarders just sitting down on the snow trying to figure it out or just about giving up. i had wondered how jay tripled its trail count in only three days... turns out they just dropped the ropes on all the trails everyone had been poaching... natural snow conditions that got thin quick. if the pending ice storm goes in our favor as snow or if jay can pick up another couple of these 4-6 inchers, they should be able to open a lot of terrain quickly and it should be approaching respectable for the drive for most people. i can not imagine many beginners and intermediates having much fun today, it really was a mess at some places.

So do you think tomorrow would be worth it? I'm strongly learning towards no, but I would just like to make sure.

you be the judge:

Someone Funny at Jay Peak said:
Another 6" of snow today has everybody fooled into thinking it's actually winter. We're all deluded and we're thrilled. More than 20" of snow since last Sunday has helped expansion efforts which have brought us to just under 30 trails open. Now please, pretty please, don't come up looking for 20" of fresh under foot or you'll be sad and thrash about in one of many industry chat rooms. The snow has allowed us to expand terrain but glades are still closed and the fresh is still a bit away. We’ll have temps in the 30's tomorrow with sunny skies and light winds. Come up and have fun. Bring your Season Pass from any other mountain and we'll get you a $39 ticket--even during the holidays.

obviously, jay has responded to harsh internet criticism about their snow reporting by hiring a comedian to write their snow reports. :D

Unfortunately if you booked a place at Jay earlier in the year for the Holidays you were only able to cancel more than 30 days in advance. I really couldn't afford to lose a $ 1500 deposit, and if I remember correctly there were several several so called ;-) weather forcasters on this board claiming the weather would change for the better:uzi: I'm sure alot of those plates you saw in the lot were in the same boat.
