Then I suggest you stop posting questions with obvious answers. Next time try www.jaypeakresport.com or just check weather.com or just look outside. You can complain that the thread was hijacked, but only if it had a point or was of some value to being with, which isn't the case here.

Furthermore, its "your wives have your balls in their purse", not there. And for your information, my balls are quite happy in the purse, its a Dolce & Gabbana. Sure beats Khols boxers.

lol. suggesting someone to go to a ski area's web site to get accurate information on how the skiing is? for real?

jay is not that great right now. all man made snow, no natural trails open, though some have poached, i certainly wouldn't touch the glades with a ten foot pole and i am fairly liberal with my base damage when ever powder is concerned. just don't see it as being safe yet. but i did see them as being safe in late october and early november, something is seriously wrong here, no? i guess the tram is opening this weekend, probably with northway from the summit. meh. if i didn't have a season pass to jay, i would be heading somewhere else most likely, but i'll be there tomorrow.

Yea, the skiing sucks, the conditions are the poorest it's ever been and it's only going to get worse. It's even worse than in the days before snowmaking...how did we ever survive that. Save yourselves the aggravation this is obviously causing some of you and sell your equipment and take up bowling. I mean, if you join a team you get to wear those cool shirts.

The thing that gets me is why all those people coming off the Bush today were all smiling. So what if it was a bluebird day with little wind, skiing among snow encrusted trees with decent conditions considering the weather. What is wrong with these people! Don't bother checking out the website...all those pics and vids from the last few days are all fake.

Sorry...now back to the regularly scheduled thread..........Jay.

i am up there right now, skiing tomorrow - tuesday. Like Rivercoil said, I am only here because I have a place and seasons pass. I could not imagine paying what some people pay to go skiing, lodging, food and gear to ski in this weather. It is a balmy 7 degrees here in Montgomery. I will let you know how it iis. Friends have said shapen your edges DUST ON CRUST.

Anybody headed to Jay tomorrow or Sunday?

Yeah, I am for real on this one. Jay, and many other EC resorts for that matter, are known for talking up their conditions, their openings and their recent snow falls. So when they claim that they have 20 trails with so-so snow with no glades, and no tram, coupled with Jay's dependably sucky grooming - that usually means things are pretty bad. Pretty obvious.

Funny how you were surprised that I suggested Jay's website, but not that I suggested weather.com. I thought people would be all over me on that one...

Another funny site would be www.bestskiweather.com Jimbo is in cahoots w/ most resorts and will convince most to drive hundreds of miles for big pow. I will say since he somewhat uses other peoples info, his reports are a bit more conservative.

Nice pics....but as you can read, many seem more comfortable wallowing in self pity so I'm sure in this case a picture is worth a mountain, no pun intended, of self medicating disdain.
Hey, works for me, more ski time for the rest of us....see ya in February.

Absolutely the best post in this thread. Excellent pics! Wish I was there. I'm trying to stoke folks renting from our shop here in SW PA. One local hill has a trail resembling a narrow tilted (8-10 degree) football field open. The other - 8 trails w/ a skier density of 1/sq yard. Fun is what you make it.

See you in March.;-)

It seems we go over this every time conditions are less than desirable. Here is how it plays out:

1. Someone on the board posts and asks how the conditions are in northern VT and asks if its worth a 5 or 7 hour each way drive up from NY or NJ or something like that.
2. People express their oppinions on this topic and individuals living far away from the resorts say, no its not worth it to invest 14 hours of round trip driving and expense to ski pretty subpar conditions. Suggestions like "if you can afford to, skiing out West might be a better option" or suggestions like "wait for the conditions to get better before making the trek" are posted.
3. Next locals, or people who live near the mountain(s) in question (who don't have the time/money concerns of driving 14 hours and maybe have a seasons pass to the mountain) post comments that are ment to mock people who said it wasn't worth it for not knowing what they are talking about or not being core enough.

Ask yourself this question: would you invest your entire weekend, potentially leave your family behind, and driving 800 miles and 14 hours, put the miles on your car, spend $75 in gas, $50 in lift ticket and $100 in lodging to ski 20 trails of dust on crust for 7 hours? For me, its just too much of a sacrifice. That is why I will be driving over to Blue Mountain, PA for some night skiing next week instead. 4 hours of driving and $16 lift ticket is simply a better option at this point.

I am jealous that many are locals and can afford to ski a few hours here and there any time they want more or less. More power to you...really. And one day, if I can get my balls back from the wife, I hope to be just like you. But please keep in mind that not everyone is in the same exact situation as you are and they have more factors like time and cost to weigh before jumping in the car and heading up to the hill for a few turns.

Jimmer started it, dad! :-D

What exactly is regrettable? You don't like Dolce & Gabbana?

I can't comment on the above as it a personal decision whether or not it's worth it. No one else can make that decision for you.

We are just trying to give you the straight poop on the conditions up here. If you want to assume the worst, that's cool but don't put it out like you actually know what your talking about. Like the comment that you need grass skis at Jay....I don't think so.

I have alot more faith in the snow reports than most. I know the snow totals reported from here are actually understated.

I'll try not to mention that it's puking snow right now, just got an update from the local weather guy and we might get as much as 6-8" on the hill by the end of the day. oops!
