Great machine. I love mine. I used it for the second half of last season and it made a huge difference in my technique and endurance. Use it well.

I've never seem on in a gym. I wish mine had one. That said, other then the fact it makes you feel like you’re doing something ski related, I doubt it does any better job of getting a person in shape for skiing then other ski conditioning exercises.

I'm not putting it down, I'm glad you guys like yours and I wish I had access to one. Just my 2 cents.

I have one and I would agree with you on the conditioning aspect. That being said, I think it helps make one a better skier, especially beginners.

Despite being a strong supporter of the Edge, I do agree with you. Nothing replaces the real thing. I think I am able to get a similar rhythm to the actual sport, but no machine can truly emulated the action of turning. The conditioning aspects are phenomenal. After regular use I never experienced fatigue in my quads or lower back.

Ditto.....

Superb machine. The Big Mountain with swinging (laterally) and fore/aft adjustments comes as close to real thing as possible. My first Classic SE was great, too.

Not cheap, the new ones, but extraordinary build quality, great customer service.....you get what you pay for theory.

I used to use the reebok slide but when I saw the price of this I went and got it. If anyone want's to buy my reebok slide I will sell it for 45$ the booties are a little torn but it still works great for a lateral workout.

I have the Big Mountain as well. Are you talking about the slope simulator attachment?

Yup...

Slope simulator....on the RPM platform. RPM has the side to side foot plates, SS the fore/aft. Using balls of feet, you can really simulate a near carving feel, and the SS allows more aggressive foreward stance, or purposeful trips to the back seat to "recover" from.

Money well spent, with the workout computer. Try losing the poles, and replacing them with a 1 or 3 pound weight. Balance training supreme.

Got to agree with HPD; no matter how many hills I throw my blades down, invisible chairs against the wall, or hours I put in on the Bongo board before opening day, I still end up having to set up an Arnica drip after those first few sessions.

Something to be said though for doing anything that gets your head back into it, and so I wish you all well with your new machines.

I, too, agree with with you and HPD. And you know the old adage, "Nothing gets you ready for skiing, except skiing."

However, like many above, I would also use one if it were at my gym....at least for part of my workouts. Good luck with your new purchase.

I can't wait to get back on the snow. I did set a small fitness goal of loosing 15 lbs before the first time I put on skis.

Great machine! Great price! I have had mine over two years. I bought it at a ski show at a "discount price" of around $1,500. If you don't have it as part of your deal, buy the "Slope Simulator." While the standard foot pads provide an excellent work-out, the slope simulator comes closer to the variations in muscle control needed for proper balance on actual snow. Aside from vastly improved strength and aerobic conditioning from using the machine, the slope simulator has also greatly improved my balance. Good luck with it.
