I'm as serious as a heart attack. I would also like to see Killington break out the trucks. Come on people! Some ski area needs to create an early season buzz! And the AZ crew will be there to document the whole thing!

At the same time, I still wouldn't rule out K for next week. I never let the weather dictate my plans, at least not long term.
Hey, I'm normally as optimistic as anyone when it comes to long term forecasts. That's the problem. Killington is not commiting to lower-elevation snowmaking because of a long-term forecast for next week. No Snowden terrain with snow = no opening. Unless of course they figure out some sort of downloading approach. I for one would have absolutely NO problem hiking from the top of the North Ridge Triple to the summit to download on the K1. I doubt many early-seasoners would. That's really our only shot.

Sunday River looks like the best possibility for skiing next week as they are making snow top to bottom last night and continue higher up on the mountain today. The snow report says to hope for a cold night tonight and check back with them on sunday.:spin:

My next post will be a ski report from somewhere, soon I hope.

Sunday River could open now if only they would use the midstation on Locke and download. T2 and upper punch are perfect early season trails that don't need that much snowmaking but it seems like resorts wont open these days without being "top to bottom"
i dont understand why they are wasting snowmaking on southridge when it will melt away next week instead of putting the snow where it will stick and where 99% of skiiers in November are gonna ski. Sometimes i really wonder who makes these decisions:smash:

I remember in the mid 90's skiing T2 early season and using the midstation on the Locke lift. They were open real early....

It's a very flat ride from K1 to the top of North Ridge, how about we ski down and truck back to the gondola, hjeheh.

Hey Win - wanna be our contigency plan for [POST="119448"]the 10th[/POST]? Come on! Blow the snot out of FIS and download us on the GMX. Most of us would make the longer drive, I bet...

I think FIS is the last trail you would see open early on Ellen. The amount of snow required to cover that trail is huge. I would think Rim Run would be an easier move.

From the killington website:

Snowmaking temperatures are here through the weekend and we are going to take full advantage of building a sustainable base from mid-mountain to the peak.

Don't look for them to open, in my mind a very good idea by the Killington management!

with temps approaching 70 next week and staying in the 60s possibly through the 15th/16th, dont look for anyone to open early, or possibly even on time

i hate to be the nay sayer, but realistically, if killington isn't blowing below mid-mountain, you can take that as a sure sign they will be pushing back opening weekend unless they get some snow guns going soon. it was cold today up at jay, cold enough to have the snow guns going at high noon they could be blowig snow at night on the lower mountain if they wanted...

I was up north and the Tv reports said 50's in the whites during the day. Not good, but not 70. www.wmur.com/weather/index.html I saw snow being made on the top of waterviille on high country and down towards the north chair. Couldn't get pictures really only could see from rt 49 through the trees. There were snow squalls at Loon no snow being made. Guns on both the west and the gondola side sittin idle. That was as of 3 pm.

Come on, Joshua, knock it off already. Seriously. The temps at Killington are not "approaching 70" by any means. That doesn't diminish the fact that they aren't opening next week, but still...

It is barely going to hit 60 around here, up north it definitely won't be "approaching 70". If by up north, you mean North Carolina, then you win. Unfortunately, there's no big cooldown in the 10 day forecast. If it's any indication, last year the same exact thing happened in November and the end of November ended up being awesome. All this doesn't really affect me since I probably won't be skiing till Thanksgiving anyway.

Dude, you're crazy. If you looked at a weather service that I have repeatedly suggested, or even cared about your credibility, you'd think twice before posting such crap.

Last year people were saying one thing and you went another way. This year you flip flop. I hope you're not trolling.

And by the way, VT Media last night (which I saw with my own eyes...WCAX Channel 3.... www.wcax.com ) said that the highs in VT were going to be in the 40's or 50's as opposed to the 70's that you cite...which has no source.

You come in here and say crazy things with no source or reference. I sure hope that you don't practice law that way.

Getting a little heated over the weather eh? (pun intended)
The guy didn't say where it was going to be near 70, so maybe we give some slack. I wouldn't be surpirsed if NYC gets near that next week. We all know the mtns won't.
