Re: this thread on K-zone regarding the trail changes at Killington's Skye Peak, where there seem to be some concerns about traffic routing and crowding at Bear mountain.

Tom,

Just wondering if you could clarify for us what the trail changes are going to be like surrounding the new Skye Peak Express:

- Will the "Skyeburst Access" shown on the Act 250 maps actually be the new Great Eastern?

- Will is be possible to reach this "Skyeburst Access" off of the K-1...?

- Will the widened part of upper Cruise Control plus Funny Bone be Great Eastern also....?

- What sections of Great Eastern from the top of Bear and Snowshed Crossover will be closed?

- Will it indeed not be possible to ski from the current Upper Great Eastern/Upper Pipe Dream/Gateway/etc, across Skyeburst to Lower Cruise Control/Dreammaker/Great Eastern....?

- How do you think traffic flow at Bear base and on Falls Brook will be?

- Will there indeed be no clear beginner Killington Peak to Route 4 trail....?

Might be a good thing to put in your blog....please clarify this for us!!!!

Thanks,

HS.

He hasn't been online since you first posted this. How about you either (1) be patient or (2) PM him notifying him of the post?

Thanks for the heads up.

What do you guys think of the changes?

I've heard a rumor that Killington will release a trail map soon....

After the last go-around, it will be amazing to get any response to this at all. Must maintain the balance between healthy curiosity and obsession.

Good questions HS!
We just received final approval on the act 250 permiots this afternoon and trail work will begin on Thursday - see new blog posting. I don't have all the answers yet, but I have addressed your questions to the best of my knowledge below.

Tom,

Just wondering if you could clarify for us what the trail changes are going to be like surrounding the new Skye Peak Express:

- Will the "Skyeburst Access" shown on the Act 250 maps actually be the new Great Eastern?
A: The new Great Eastern will start off the top of Skye Peak (off Superstar, Skyeship or the new SPE) and the connect to the lower GE trail below Cruise Control. The Northbrook Quad will be open daily to return beginner skiers to the Snowshed area.

- Will is be possible to reach this "Skyeburst Access" off of the K-1...?
A: Great Eastern off the top of K-1 will be renamed Bear Trax and connect to Bear Cub - formerly Falls Brook - and end at Bear Mountain.

- Will the widened part of upper Cruise Control plus Funny Bone be Great Eastern also....?
A: Yes

- What sections of Great Eastern from the top of Bear and Snowshed Crossover will be closed?
A: The entire crossover will be closed from Bear Mountain to the top of the Snowshed Express.

- Will it indeed not be possible to ski from the current Upper Great Eastern/Upper Pipe Dream/Gateway/etc, across Skyeburst to Lower Cruise Control/Dreammaker/Great Eastern....?
A: You will have to take the SPE to access those trails.

- How do you think traffic flow at Bear base and on Falls Brook will be?
A: Much better flow is anticipated with these improvements!

- Will there indeed be no clear beginner Killington Peak to Route 4 trail....?
A: Correct.
We will try to get the new trail map posted on the blog next week so everyone can see the new changes for the 2008/09 season, which will allow for uninterupted to to bottom skiing and riding on many trails in the Skye Peak, Bear Mountain areas, including the new Burton Stash.

Might be a good thing to put in your blog....please clarify this for us!!!!

Thanks,

HS.

i can not belive that burton is doing a stash there. on second thought its a hell of a lot better than jake screwing up his home mountain.

rumor has it Jake wanted to put it at Stowe, but they declined.
