Geoff for mayor of Killington...then he can get free Gombay smashes.and the best spot for spring tailgaiting...JEA!!!

If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.

I don't drink Goombays. They're a hangover in a mason jar. I pretty much always score a good slopeside tailgating spot. It's one of my priorities in life.

Dougie is a long time Geoff groupie. ;)

Question concerning Pico. I will be skiing there a couple of times this season. Do they run the Outpost lift every day? One thing that I wish was still there that I loved back in the day was the Poma that ran next to Upper Giant Killer. I used to love doing laps on that run.

The Outpost double is my favorite area at Pico. In recent times, it seems to only runs weekends and it's not even reliably open every weekend. Fortunately, it's a very minor walk to get to that terrain when the lift isn't running. Don't let a closed lift slow you down.

It's looking like I'm going to be at Killington all winter this year. Lemme know when you're there.

Will do. I haven't skied Pico since the early 90's and I'm looking forward to it. I used to love the Outpost area, A slope and Upper Giant Killer.

If Outpost isn't running, just carry some speed up ThatAWay (I think that's what it's called), and you should be able to pretty much be able to get to the top without much hiking.

Tom, can you give us some insight about the new Terrain Park layout, why it was chosen and how it will ski?

Unfortunately, it seemly like the new layout is too fragmented. For example, to get to the main Dreammaker park, you can only take Skyeburst or Upper Dreammaker. This will increase traffic on those two trails and cause bad mixing of skier types (people focused on getting to the park, vs. normal traffic). It is unstatisfying and unattractive to the terrain park skier to spend half their run skiing a "boring" groomer.

Then you have the "Stash" and Bear Claw parks, which start nicely at the top of lifts, but empty out into a major 4 way intersection with Skyeburst and Upper Wildfire. Then after negotiating that intersection and crowded groomers, the park skier can duck off into a very short park on the new Lower Dreammaker (Grizzly) above the pipe, if they are aware of it.

Overall, it sound like you're going to have a bunch of park skiers bombing groomers to get around to these parks, sort of how they were all crossing Great Eastern last year to get to Dreammaker.

There has got to be a better way to lay this all out. Really.

Personally, I would have put the "Stash" in the woods between upper Dreammaker and Skyeburst, so it connected to the lower park. But it's too late for that now, isn't it.

Another alternative would be to move the main park back to lower Wildfire, and open up Lower Dreammaker, Grizzy, and Bear Claw for normal skier traffic....would make more sense, even though the half pipe would be off by itself.

Do something else, anything, please....if you want to have people come to your mountain for the parks you have to have a layout that makes sense and works.

I personally would ski parks much more often at Killington, but the dreammaker park is too flat of a trail to have good sightlines and landings, so I avoid it. I skied the Lower Wildfire park all the time when it was there.

Bump, quoted for truth. This was originally posted last September, and turned out to be spot on.

One thing I didn't pick up on was the top of the new Great Eastern route, where there's the icy death chute off the skye peak express.

Yep. You got it right with the mixed traffic flow. I don't know what they were thinking. It's really bad when upper Dream Maker is groomed. You have low skill twin tippers straightlining it.

Somehow I doubt it's related, but it's been great since you left...!
