oh yeah - I'm not saying thats when we hit the mountain, I'm saying thats when we all get together at KBL. Most of us try to get first chair or close to it. Ty and myself never get first char because we have to drop the kids off at the programs, but we have to be at the mountain early for that.

More about the 10 AM meeting here: (thats me with the yellow backpack)

Those pics remind me of the famous ski flick produced by Andyzee...."Standing Around"

I really appreciate your detailed and positive responses. So it seems that as same as
anything, something is better and something is worse. Sounds like the crowed wouldn't
bother us too much. I cannot imagine it to be worse than Wawa. Of couse it
wouldn't be like Ragged Mt and I enjoy that kind of relaxed experience too but
I think K has differrent experience to offer at the cost of a little more hustle on our part
as parents.

Of course there is interesting logistic challenge for skiing on wide spread
mountain as a family, but I'm familiar with that aspect of K so it would be fun to make
plan to explore the different part of the mountain through out the week. I think it will
be quite a challenge for my wife, although being excellent skier, she is horrible at
remembering directions on the mountain and never ever remember any name of
the trails. She skied K once but I'm sure she doesn't remember a thing :).
Thanks god that we have cellphones nowadays.

We have two kids, my son is 10: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4384153398807303160
and my daughter 5: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5705637983355600724

I think my son can handle majority of the trails at K and I'm looking forward to
explore the new woods with him which didn't exist before. My daughter would
enjoy many of the cruising trails. I'm looking forward to cruise down the Great
Eastern, which I have done once for a heck of it and thought I would never do
that again :).

DONT FORGET PICO is included in the Killington lift tickets and from the sounds of it..that might be a GREAT choice for you and the family.. plenty of good terrain, usually better snow, and LESS CROWDS..take at least a DAY there....all trails filter to one base lodge and lift...there is a "summit" lift as well from mid mtn.....

Kiliington is OK...I don't find it to be much better or worse than other resorts in most ways. Frankly, I'm too busy skiing to keep lists of specific things I like and dislike. Really, I don't care as long as the snow is good.

I don't buy ASC passes, so I do find the inflated day ticket rates a bit much. Certainly wouldn't choose Killington as a family destination for that reason...very expensive.

One thing I see alot of in all threads that rate ski resorts is this issue of crowds. This is a total non-issue to me. You folks must have a very low tolerance for other people because I've never felt that anywhere I've skiied had such big crowds that I even noticed. Maybe I just ski faster than others or maybe I just don't care. To me, the trails at K seem no more crowded than anywhere else, and the woods seem empty like other places too. And yes, I'm talking about weekends. And no, I don't take a few runs early and then hit the bar...I ski from first chair to last and I want to ski fast and ski as much as possible.

I don't go skiing to socialize or chat or take videos or pictures. I go to ski my ass off. I've never felt that I didn't ski enough at any resort I've been to.

Just watched the videos. My son and your son would have a blast skiing together. One thing - your sons poles are TOO long.....

your daughter looks ready for poles - she's poling on her turns

Great thread Dog, looks like you made a few new buds to ski with at K too. That's cool.

Are you implying that those of us who want to avoid crowds are just there to chat, take pixs and socialize?

That would be cool. It will likely be MA's winter vacation week, which will be the week
of 2/19 in 2007.

No, that was a throw in comment to emphasize I like to keep moving and not stand around. I in no way meant to imply that folks who want to avoid these alleged crowds are standing around chatting or taking pics. Sorry, not great writing on my part.

I don't acknowledge that these alleged crowds exist, so I'm not sure what you're avoiding, but if you're skiing as much as you can then carry on my friend.

 Good one

Now JimmyG. are you saying that no ski area is ever crowded? That it doesn't matter to you one way or the other if your skiing down Clairs with 4 other people or 400?

BTW, I'll be down to Hunter this Monday. Bringing my Dad to Windam to visit Karl P. (great guy as U know) then we're going to Hunter for a look around and hopefully say Hi to Orvil S. (another great guy), can't wait. Any chance U goin be in the area?

I don't know if some ski areas get really crowded...I think it's a personal thing. Some folks are better at dealing with groups of people than others. All I'm saying is that I've never been at any ski area that I would consider so crowded that it affected my perception of the experience. Maybe I'm just good at ignoring crowds. Maybe my definition of a crowd differs from other folks. Or maybe they just don't exist. I've never seen 400 people on Clair's at once, even on weekend powder days.

I've heard folks talk about 45 minute lift lines...I've never experienced that here in the US. Never. Check that...the tram at Snowbird gets pretty crazy, but that's a once in the morning deal and if you get there early, it's no real issue. I've never waited more than 10 minutes on any lift line and that's just not long enough for me to complain about. I've waited longer than that at Wendy's to get my kids crap food.

Now if you want to talk about crowds and rudeness and you want to discuss Europe, well then I have some things to say about crowds. But not here in the US.

Sorry I won't be able to hook up with you on Monday...this damned thing called work gets in the way at times and this is one of them. Too bad since you'll be in my neck of the woods.

Now if it was winter and Hunter was open for skiing...

It's all personal opinion on what is crowded, but I find Killington to be crowded to a point where it decreases enjoyment. I do think it has some good terrain, but at times the trails can be like an obstacle course as you always have to avoid people. On mountains with lower skier density there is a lot more freedom, and you don't have the constant stress of having to avoid crashes.

The overcrowding only occurs in certain _well known_ areas, not the entire mountain. For regulars, not a big deal. For others who don't know the ins and outs, certainly a bigger deal.

Couldn't have said it any better. Convergence of Double Dipper/Downdraft/Royal East Fall = bad news. Mouse Trap/Chute = bad news. There are more... It is only necessary to travel through these junctions briefly. Then, frankly, I have never had a problem if you avoid the freeways.

Consider them "movable gates" and ski accordingly :uzi:

Man that was boring. Great Eastern is a much better crusing trail.
