The largest issue with Skyeship is its unique design, not age or hours. It was the first multi-stage lift built by Poma AFAIK - cutting edge in '94. There is a great video on it from the 90's kicking around.
K1 is a lot more straightforward.
So yes they can replace the cabins, but you're not going to see an overly large improvement in perceived reliability without rebuilding all 3 terminals - not likely to happen.
Was running at 1000 FPM every time I rode this winter - perfectly reasonable rope speed.
