I guess bear would be pretty short. It just feels very old and slow to me.

I stand by canyon tho. Thatโ€™s some of the terrain I want to lap the most with one of the slowest coldest lifts to do so

Bear is only about 500' shorter than Superstar. And both cover about the same vertical. It wouldn't be the craziest place for an express quad.

It's been a long time since I've skied Killington but does that lift even have lines on it? Do they even run it midweek? It is a good one to lap but seems underutilized but maybe that's changed.

K needs to follow the SR approach, upgrade existing detach before even thinking about adding to the fleet. Rams first, then SS. I have not been to snowshed in maybe a decade plus but likely third in line.

May be an opportunity to relocate skye hsdq and increase capacity.

I think it only runs every other day mid-week (M/W/F).

But as to being under-utilized in general, it is under-utilized because no one wants to sit on a slow lift? Or would there still be limited demand even if it was a faster lift? That's terrain I'd like to lap too, but the last time I was at K was a mid-week day that Canyon wasn't running. So it wasn't even an option.

Maybe instead of an HSQ for Bear or Canyon they just put a FGQ with a carpet loader to speed them up a bit whenever they do decide to replace those. I don't really think Kusty thinking those 2 lifts need to be replaced is off-base. I'd actually rather see both of those replaced as well rather than some others that have been mentioned.

It doesnโ€™t have lines bc itโ€™s cold and slow and people ski the run out to k1. I donโ€™t like waiting for k1 and taking my skis off and I donโ€™t need the top 200 feet off the top. Iโ€™d love for canyon to be faster, whether or not itโ€™s a detach. I donโ€™t like bubbles generally but wouldnโ€™t be opposed there. Itโ€™s really fucking cold and thatโ€™s prime k peak steeps and trees access without the dumb runout

Canyon will never be high speed and is so far down the priority list for replacement it's not even worth mentioning. It runs at 450 FPM which for a fixed grip is normal. I would argue it has low ridership because of the low traffic that even ends up at its base, not because of the ride.

As for Bear, also way down the list. It's not overly slow either and the ride time is reasonable. I could see it come on the radar when Phase 2 (or more) of Bear Redevelopment occurs and a new lodge is built, but not before then. While the lines are Skye Peak Express becomes long, I don't think increasing capacity on that chair would be practical. The unload area is very constrained and so is downhill capacity. I would spend my money on the Bear upgrade in hopes of just drawing people away from this chair on busy days.

Rams Head, Superstar, and Snowshed are next. A Skyeship overall needs to be in the picture too. I'm guessing Snowdon would be after that. Mike mentioned a fixed grip, I'm guessing perhaps only installed to midstation.

It's been a hot minute since I've skied there but I'm right there with you that lift serves some really good stuff and I also dislike taking skis off and riding the gondola.

Canyon is mostly late-model Yan which is bulletproof. Bear is getting ancient but K/P had a shitload of Yan lifts from that era so I'm sure they've still got plenty of parts. I bet they're both still here in 2035.

They're both pretty reliable, shorter, non-primary lifts. Killington will run them into the ground.

Imo none of the fixed grips at K are in need of upgrades. A new Ramshead lift should be the first priority, as well as a Skyeship overhaul. After that, Superstar and Snowshed should be looked at.
Superstar and Snowshed must be getting worn.

Last I spoke with someone in terms of hours per year it goes: K1, SS, Snowshed (due to mountain biking), RH (due to mountain biking), North Ridge, Skyeship Stage 2, Skye Peak Express, Skyeship Stage 1, Northbrook Quad, then take your pick for what's left.

Surprised SS goes more than Snowshed or Ramshead. Supe runs late November to early June, Ramshead runs year round except for early/mid May and late October/November

Superstar goes live once the snowmaking for WC starts up. Check out the webcams once they start blowing that, it's pretty much always moving.

But it doesn't run in the summer like snowshed and ramshead do, and once supe starts spinning in October, snowshed and rams are only a couple weeks behind it.

World Cup tickets are on sale - i did grandstand for Saturday plus a parking pass. $90 for the parking pass which seems steep but will likely do a tailgate and its always a fun day.

Based on the forecast Killington is sitting pretty. Snowmaking temps starting early Tuesday AM. It's still relatively far out... I see anything from highs of 25-40 degrees during the day Tuesday and Wednesday depending on the source. Unless it swings towards the extreme high end of that spectrum it'll be cool enough to keep making "snow" during the warmest few hours of the day. Definitely looks like enough of a window to get open and the forecast being marginal favors Killington over SR or others. Thursday PM passholder opening and general unwashed masses Friday opening?! That's what I am seeing.
