least favorite is tough, however, I will say that I hate Killington on a weekend, though I love it on a weekday.

After going to Mt Snow this year for the first time in ages, I must say, it was a real snoozer. We had great weather and good snow. The skiing was fun, but not very interesting or challenging. The next day we went to Killington, and it was way more fun and challenging.

But I think overall, my least favorite ski area is Holiday Valley. in western NY.

It is not worth driving there. While only 2 1/2 hrs from here, it only has 600 vertical feet. It is wide and has a lot of trails, but they are short and they all seem the same. Kinda like Okemo with only a fraction of the vertical. It also gets incredibly crowded, though we hit it on an off weekend in the early season so it wasn't so bad. At least it has high speed lifts. 2 minute lift ride and 1 minute of skiing. You can get in a lot of laps.

I'm much better off staying closer to home and skiing Greek Peak. The lift rides are long (12 min) and there is only 900 vertical feet, but the terrain is much more interesting.

Anyplace with an excessive "Joey Factor". Loon would top that list.
I'm suprised it took so long to see Loon Bashed. I would invert it Sr my favorite Loon my 2nd favorite. I prefer the positive side. I understand why Loon gets disliked I 'm just not one of them. I always enjoy only driving 1 1/2 hours home on Sunday. Only negitive I would have is with Tenney .I bought that early season pass last year and got quite a surpise 1000 foot lift serviced trail. No 300 foot mini park. I got my money back horrified of the falsehoods presented.

Yep, Tenney is down there on my list. I already told you on Monday why I was so disappointed. It's too bad...decent place otherwise :-?

Because it is boring. For a large area it is amazing how boring it is. It seems as though if you have made one turn there you have made them all. It is hard to tell one trail from another, they all look and ski alike.

I think you agree with me that if the place had the right management it could be a decent place to ski...it's unfortunate that it has gone downhill (no pun intended though!)

Thats a fair statement. The empoyees were very nice. I enjoyed being a volunteer. When Loon offered the cheap passes I moved on It had nothing to do with the mountain. The cost ratio of working to get a pass as opposed to just paying for it was the only factor.
The 99 early season pass gave me a chance to come back and i was excited. I gave up 5 patriots games that year to ski early. So I lost my tickets and my ski days. Ya I carry a grudge. Integrity in marketing is possile. Congrats on the new status.

When going up the Northstar Express quad, the terrain at Okemo certainly looks like what you describe...boring. The funny thing I've noticed is that actually going down the hill is much different. Sure, some trails next to each other will have very similar fall lines. Jolly Green Giant and Sapphire, well lets just say all the blue cruisers between the summit and solitude are pretty much the same. But take these cruisers out of the equation, or treat them like one and the compare the hill's terrain. Seems damn fine to me. The south face undulates all over the place...rim rock is one of my fav blue's. challenger, triplesc, defiance countdown, I love that junkl! Solitude is pretty lame if you ask me, but then Jackson Gore has got some fantastic lines. Really nice stuff...can't wait to hit it on a good day...we got this fargin drought and its killing me.

I could see why Okemo wouldn't be someone's favorite (I doubt its mine). But the least liked hill? Save your hatred for those places that truly deserve it, like MRG (thanks for your report dmc) . If they wanted to honor old timy New Enlgand sking they should outlaw metal edges, plastic boots, gore-tex and penecillin. That would reduce the amount of traffic down the hill for sure. If they wanted to reduce the amount of traffic, then reduce the amount of users, not the type of users. The skier v. snowboarding thing is sooo lame. Skiers are great to board with...always nice for a little pole tow through flat traverses (sounded dirty but isn't).

Funny... Really good point - can't wait to argue it when I go to telefest there.. Seriosuly.. I think the whole MRG Historical claim is just passive aggressive bs..

So the pole tow works well.. But what I find really works better is when skiers(friends) skate up from behind and push you accross the flats..

Might be a dangerouse activity...I kind of have a large ass that's known in the business as a "momentum killer." With the pole the skier can leverage their weight disadvantage..need to find a body donor brave enough.

Yeah when you go to tele-fest and some MRG knob or knobette takes out Advil for a sore shoulder, slap it out of his or her hands. Be a freind to them and help them be consistent and faithful to the distant epoch that they purport is contemporary --- apply many leeches to the affected area to pull out the bad spirits. Until they can suck no more...

At the moment MRG is my fav hill. Now I know there is alot of misconception about MRG and that is just fine as it keeps most of the Joey's at places like Pokemo. First high speed lifts. MRG 11 mins for 1600' of arguably the best vertical in the east vs. how long for 1600' of vert of blue/green at pokemo?, 9 mins at Mount Snow for 1600' of intermediate trails.

7 minutes. But hey, if you don't like the terrain, what good does it do you?

Hating Okemo is like hating pizza with extra-cheese. --- it may not be your favorite style, and at times can seem a bit unbalanced, but when you sit down to eat it, you realize its not all that bad.

MRG is like that really hot girl in high school that you thought was interested in you. You get yourself all torqued up. She is funny and gorgeous. That night, you'e having fun and she has a few wine coolers. Things are looking good. Then she throws up all over you car. You drive her home, but you still hope something develops with her. You call her the next day to see how she's feeling. She doesn't return you call. You try again. She totally blew you off, your not sure why, and now the whole school knows and you're humiliated.

Years later, you run into her at the super market. She still looks great and then she tells you she married to some self-absorbed corporate suck-up who is quietly killing her soul. And the worst part: He's a skier .

(no offense meant to my skier friends of course).

re: MRG, I'm agnostic on the question of whether or not to allow snowboarders. I can tell you as a lodge owner that they lose a lot more business than the 25-35% of snowboarders, though. I've seen many groups of five or six guys who would love to give MRG a try between Sugarbush days but, oops, no snowboarders and one of them has a board. They lose not only the boarder but his five skiing buddies. But hey, it's their business and their mountain.

As for the single chair, I just don't see the appeal. It's incredibly boring to ride all the way up by yourself while your friend is on the chair behind you. And really, would the trails off the single be busy if they were dropping people off two at a time? Nah...there's plenty of terrain up there for a double or even a triple. My vote would be to put in a double and make it a little faster. I do like the mid-mountain bail-out though. That's a good idea.

I think that single chair is a danger as well as boring too.....
If they get rid of it - it's the last barrier for snowboarding... Other then the share vote...
