I'll second the devils fiddle quad. I was at K maybe 15 -20 days in my life and never saw it spin. And now it's gone. Not surprised though. That lift didn't really have a purpose other than a sort of backup for the bear peak quad if it was packed. From what I remember it was a good 100 yards away and an uphill hike from the bear peak quad.

I'll second the south ridge triple as well. Glad I did get to ride that lift before it was taken down.

I don't think lift 5 has spun once in at least 5 years at Loveland. The lift connects Loveland basin with Loveland valley and passes over US6 and Clear Creek. I've heard from a couple sources that passengers were dropping stuff in the creek and the national forest service was so concerned about the effects that they told Loveland they can't run it anymore. Loveland even took it off of the trail map a couple of years ago but the lift is still there.

Cloud 9 double at mammoth used to never run, they've replaced it since then with a high speed lift so it may be running more.

Iron hourse double at winter park

Is the Black Chair at Magic running now? I know they had a myriad of problems with it last year.

The Devils Fiddle quad was put in as a connector lift to the rest of K from the old Northeast Passage access point. Once they took out the lower part of the Northeast Passage lift which accessed K from the junction of rt. 100 & rt. 4 there was no need for the lift anymore. It was never intended to handle the overload from Bear. I'm glad they put in that chair because without it Devils Fiddle (the trail) probably never would have been cut.

I've rode both the Devils Fiddle & Southridge chairs many times. There are plans to replace the Southridge chair sometime in the future. It will be a straight shot not a triangular chair like the old lift. They even left the lift towers in on the down side of the old chair which was a straight shot to be used for the replacement chair.

I think I have seen the devil's fiddle
quad spin once or twice. Even when the BMQ was packed, devil's fiddle was fairly empty.

I have always wondered why the south ridge chair rounded a corner. I also wonder why they made riders go the long way... Maybe someone knows...?

It was just a marketing tool at the time. When it was first put in they advertised it heavily as the worlds first triangular chair.

Apparently the trick to getting lifts running is to mention them in a thread like this, because I just checked some trail/lift reports and apparently the South American and Solstice lifts at Stratton are running, along with the Duckling Double at Sunapee. Probably just due to it being Christmas break. I'll know hell has frozen over, though, when I see Outpost and Knomes Knoll at Pico open.

Out of the Outpost, Knomes Knoll, and Little Pico chairs, I think Pico only ever runs one or two at a time. In my 4 visits to Pico, they always have Golden, Summit, and Bonanza running. But only twice I have seen Outpost run, twice Knomes Knoll run, and three times I have seen Little Pico run.

I believe part of the original intention was to use the turn as a mid-station loading point which they did at first.

I heard that as well, along with the owner of K using this path to create two trails vs one

You just answered a question I had been asking myself as I noticed it was no longer on the map. One time on a powder day we went down to valley because of visability up at Basin and had to take the shuttle. Turned out to be a great day as we had the Valley double to ourselves (which is not bad) and double digit uncut pow every run.

Hudson (Little Gore) chair at Gore is rarely open. Maybe 6-10 days per year.

Also, any lift at Hickory...
