Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to the meeting. I was in Canada playing hockey.
It is going to be really interesting to see how this all plays out over the next several years. It is not at all surprising that the representative really had no idea about the development of the skiing experience. I think Riverc0il hit it on the head... :smash:
In Google Earth I have roughly worked out the lift layout on a true map rather than a trail map. Props to Trailboss for getting the map he made put together.
My first map shows a overhead view of the layout. From this perspectve you can get a much better idea of how far out there East Bowl really goes. The Dark Red lines are the Proposed and Existing liftlines. In my opinion this lift setup is very doable with minimal impact to the trails as they currently exist (East Bowl lift not included in this statement). A summit HSQ is needed to bring Burke to the next level. I think they have located the lift wisely. As much as I don't like to think about the POMA lift being shortened, the addition of a summit HSQ (Let's call it the "Bridgmor Express" ) will make the current setup of the Willoughby Quad and the POMA unecessary. Unloading two Quads at the summit would be overkill. It is quite obvious to me that the Willoughby Quad is going to be used mostly by racers with this layout and that Lower Willoughby may become very under utilized due to a long traverse back to the HSQ. The Poma would service Lower Warrens Way. As it is now only 1/2 the people that ride the Poma actually go to the top of it. Most of the racers hop off at the mid-station for runs on the lower trail.
Lets discuss the other 3 lifts.
The beginner lift in the vicinity of the Powderhorn condos is a given since there will be a lot of people in this area and the slope is good for a beginner trail. The Condo Connector trail already goes through here (the one trail at Burke I have never skied).
The Cutter lift would likely go to the top of "Owls Peak" for all of you Kingdom Trail Mtn bikers out there. Who Knows what they plan for trails in here. They would most likely be beginner terrain. You would not be able to gt to the East bowl lift from here since the top of this lift would be at about 2000 feet and the bottom of the East Bowl lift would be at 2100 feet as I have drawn here. Even the traverse back to the Mid-Burke to grab the HSQ to the summit would be somewhat of a chore.
Finally the East Bowl lift that has been talked about FOREVER. I depicted the current (marked) glades in the area in green. I don't want it and hopefully this is the last thing to happen.
I wonder if we will see something like this that Ginn has planned for a mountain resort in North Carolina?

they probably thought it would be a perfect idea to make their first condo pitch to pass holders. sounds really good in the board room until they make the pitch and realize the pass holders that showed up are probably locals not interested in the development but rather the ski area. really shows the priorities of the company. but then again, like i typed before, this is what was expected... a resort company with the ski area as an attraction to purchase real estate.
