Yes depends. Used to barbecue all the time in the parking lot. Now it matters how much money I have, how much food I have in my frig and what others I am with are doing. Try to pack lunch for the most part with a family of 5.

My choice in undergarments, for those that are interested, are rather static. Midweight virtually the entire season. Patagonia for those keeping score.

We usually make some nice sandwiches on multi-grain bread. Meats and cheeses vary week to week. Always have a nice soup as well. Usually homemade during the week from scratch.

Love to have Wise Potato chips as well.

I used to strictly brown bag. But I've gotten lazy these past few years (or decidedly less poor, or perhaps both) so I more frequently pay $12 for a burger, fries, and beverage. I am inclined to get back into bringing my own lunch more for health reasons than for financial, we'll see if I can get my butt in gear this winter.

When in doubt, get the chili. It won't get dehydrated by being under the heat lamp, it keeps you warm and nourished and, unless you're a chili snob from TX, canned chili is pretty consistent across the board.

To answer the question, I usually skip lunch. I eat a heavy breakfast (usually a sausage mcmuffin with egg on the drive up), blow through lunch then eat a good dinner either at home or on the way home. The ski day is too short to waste in the cafeteria eating overpriced mediocre food. The only time I stop for lunch is when I have company and I have to be social or I'm at a resort that serves a good lunch that's worth stopping for.

Brown Bag. Well cooler. With 4 of us every weekend usually twice a weekend buying lunch is rare. I do love grilling out in the lot but I rarely make it back on the slopes if we do that.

Beer always. Hunks of cheese and cans of sardines work well.

How does that work out in the main lodge at Gunstock? Is there a separate brown bag area? The section with cafeteria and upstairs balcony seemed to get pretty packed the one weekend day I skied there last winter.

I go with the big breakfast, skip lunch and have an early dinner. If the ski area has really good food (Quebec) an exception might be made.

With two kids I always pack lunch. Sandwiches and thermos of hot water (none available at blue...) for ramen noodles and some fruit. On mild days we tailgate with the coleman.

As an aside, that first run after lunch is by far the worst of the day for me. Gets better quickly soon after, but man I just can't get it together on that first one after lunch.

It does get pretty busy but if you time it right the crowds are less. Our kids do Mt Mashers at 12:30 do we always head in early. We also will bring the cooler backpack up to Panorama Pub on our first run and eat in there. That worked out well.

The Panorama Pub is one of the nicest summit lodges when the weather is nice. Love that spot.

Always get a nice seat on Christmas Day.:flag:
