thanks.....

i think the one thing about the east is that things change fast out here, no matter what, we will never have pow every day all day...its just not possible.....

true, and if the snow flies mid week, best to have a special arrangement with the boss, that enables you to be sick that day.

last winter was rough at times... but i'll take another feb and mar 2005, just without the rain on 1 apr that ended the season with a crash. the base was kick ass but the rain... oh the rains... and i rememeber being so eager to ride trees on 15 apr if only the leaves were not showing thru the snow. usually i am mindset switched to mtb. not this year. i felt like a heroin junkie with no fix. i wanted to snowboard so bad.

and 'm starting to think about snow again now.

Here's where I miss Dr Dewpoint's (former prognosticater/forecaster with Intellicast) long term winter forecast.

He used to discuss the five or seven aspects affecting winter weather, the relative stability of these factors, and then compare historical records of winters with similar factors.

Last year NOAA said we (Southern NE)would have an average winter. Actually they indicated we "wouldn't" be above or below...therefore interpreted as "average". Personally, I thought we did pretty well. We didn't get the snow followed by rain *depression setting in*. We also had several days in a row that never went above freezing. We also had some late season storms.

The lake house on Winnepesaukee didn't have much snow in the driveway, but higher elevations id OK. In fact, I seem to remember last spring's lack of precipitation causing concerns for the lake-level And a year or two before that...Winnie was at it's lowest level in decades (great for dock repair!).

So....Like Joshua said....(in not so many words)...Snow Dance like there's a ski season to be enjoyed.

....and GO RED SOX!

I think what will happen, what has been happening, is that we will see shorter, but more intense winters with global warming.

This at least, is the theory of how global warming would affect the Northern Hemisphere. Perhaps true winter conditions will only exist between meteorological winter December 1st - March 1st.

Truthfully nobody knows what the he double hockey sticks will happen.

The NSIDC is a neat place for a snow and ice lover like myself.

Here is another site that shows the affects of climate change on the North Cascade glaciers:

www.nichols.edu/departments/glacier/

Especially interesting the the August 2005 field study, those glaciers are really taking a beating.

It's really very simple.....I have purchased for the first time in my life a (Cue heavenly sounding music)

A SEASONS PASS

So therefore, it is going to snow TONS and TONS!! We are going to have powder days the likes of which have not been seen since our grandfather's days ("why we used to have snow up to the roof, all winter, and we had walk to school in it, barefoot, uphill...both ways!")

Or buying a snowthrower - and then no snow all winter

I did that last year...didn't really snow until mid-January. But I did get to use it 4-5 times in the end.

To ensure we have a long, cold, snowy winter I'm going to go break my furnace and then procrastinate all winter to get it fixed.

Having no water, froze pipes and sub zero indoor temperature might be a bit of a drag, but damnit, for a 300" winter it'd be worth it.
