I understand, but they also indicated it was due to eliminate any "harshness in the air". They should move operations when the base is where they want it for the season which is sounds like it is. Just sayin'...

I think some of the quotes given in the snowreports from Mount Snow as of late can get a little over analyized when read verbatim due to the new snowreporter, Halley's unbridled enthusiasm.

Also, I do know for a fact that last year they did some weekend daytime experiments where they ran the fan guns on select major routes in situations where resurfacing wasn't needed, to see how their guests liked it. The consensus was that for the first hour or so, it was fine, but after that, the fresh fan gun snow was tending to bump up on select pitches and make it more difficult and less enjoyable for the masses (I know Greg that this last statement about bumps being less enjoyable is pure blasphemy for you ;) )

Personally, I hope that they finish up all of Canyon/Standard this afternoon/evening and then groom it out now, let it set up, and then regroom it Saturday AM. That would make for pure carving bliss IMHO :)

Shutting off the guns so people aren't bothered by the snowmaking. And if you read my post you would see I qualified that by indicating if they are happy with the base (i.e. don't plan to hit those trails again, barring any major melting) I'm cool with it. Hunter for example, would never shut the guns off during the day if they had temps that support snowmaking.

Well maybe they should ask you (or Hunter Mt.) before making any decisions to their snowmaking plan then?

I guess since water is limited they cannot make snow on all trails at once, awesome that they are preparing to open more trails already. 20% of acerage open to start is way ahead of 2 years ago.

So, uhh, ungroomed Chute or no?

According to Mt. Snow's site Chute is a sure thing. No word on whether it'll be groomed or not.

I'd bet 80/20 that it ungroomed, since it had such favorable opening reviews last year when it open ungroomed. Only variable would be if the snowmaking assault on Chute starts too late to get the headwall fully covered in whales, then they might need a little "cat love" for coverage purposes there.

It was 14 at my house this am and about 25 when I got home at 3:30pm last night. Temps have been great around the clock conditions should be fantastic.
