Can't wait to ride the new single this year. Of course it should be about the same as the old, just with no poll hooks. :(

Anyone else up for hitting MRG on a good snow day? I might even consider doing a day trip again...

As with the last few years, I have a Mad Card and a few vouchers so I will be making it over there when the snow is good. Probably mostly mid-week to maximize on snow time and minimize the waiting unless it is late season when the crowds drop off.

As for the new Single, Mad River has still not met their campaign goal for refurbishing the Single, so if you haven't contributed and enjoy what the mountain offers and the decision that was made to keep the Single, dont be shy.

I'll ski MRG at least once this season...preferably midweek or late season..when crowds and coverage is good. There's alot of sweet trees I want to revisit..I also want to hit the 10-15 foot cliff under the lower part of the single if coverage is right..I haven't hit that since 1999..

I will be purchasing a mad card too. I usually do at least one if not two midweek because of lines. Why no pole hooks on the new single? I almost always used them on the old one.

I don't know. I heard there was some sort of controversy about them, but they were removed for some sort of safety reason of something. I think riverc0il on this board is the one who mentioned it in another post here. Hopefully someone will chime in..

NO pole hooks on the new single? No matter. The last time I used one I was about 15 or 16. It was a cold windy day and my poles were vintage with wide leather wrist straps. I thought that they were safely hooked but weren't. One fell and actually hit someone below. Haven't used them since.

As for the chair itself - I think that they should have put in double. It's nice to have company on the way up. They could have spaced out the chairs if they wanted to limit the capacity.

Exactly. If capacity was the issue, Mad River could have done a spaced out double similar to Castlerock. But it isn't just about capacity or else that would have been the cheaper option. You do have company on the way up the Single. Holla (is that right usage, GSS?) at the person in front of you or behind you.

That is not the right usage of the term Holla...It's Holler at the person in front of you or behind...which is one of the cool things about the MRG single since there are conversations going up and down the liftline...Holla

So what was the issue that they had to put in a single? I would think that a double chair would weight lees then two singles. Less weight should have lessened costs. Both construction wise and operating.

The co-op voted to preserve the MRG experience that is the Single chair. I can't wait to ride "New Faithful" this season!

Correct again. A double chair would have decreased costs and not have been as expensive. As Greg mentioned, this is about preserving the experience and everything that people love about Mad River Glen. This is about what the Coop shareholders want for the future of their mountain. This was not about logic or being reasonable, it was a decision made by people emotionally involved with preserving the character and experience that Mad River offers.

BAH! They should have put in a HSQ or six-pack. Probably still would have been cheaper and it sure would have keep the lift lines down..

Of course I'm just kidding, everyone knows they should have put a tram in...

I'm not picking on you ski220, even though I know it seems like it. I'm just gettin a little mental from lack of skiing or something. Please excuse my stupidinesses....
