I think these are the Mts. that get the most positive posts in this forum:

1. Sugarbush
2. MRG
3. Magic

In some cases I think they benefit from a "halo" effect from some forum members, but never the less, I think they get the most love consistently. Anyone want to add to this list or change it around?

This is kind of the opposite idea of the thread but for being the some of the busiest mountains, places like Okemo and Stratton rarely get mentioned. Sometimes I wonder if it is for that reason. FYI- I dont care much for either place

I think most of us look for more challenging terrain and don't like the sanitized versions of skiing you get at those places. And there just aren't that many snowboarders (who seem to love Stratton) here.

The "tilted dance floor" resorts don't get a lot of love from advanced skiers. The reality is the Strattons, Okemos, and Loons of the world are offering the mainstream product since most skiers and snowboards are intermediate and rarely leave the groomed trails.

I came back in to add Pats, Hammer beat me to it. Helped us get a race team going, helped with discounts. Kind of the opposite almost. They are giving da love.

Add: Whteface, Sundown, Hunter and most recently Mount Snow. Never been to Whiteface, but these are all deserving and I don't get the "halo" effect comment. They get love cuz they're good.

I'll add Berkshire East to the mix. There may not be a lot of posts or posters that talk about it but when there are posts about BEast, they're usually always pretty favorable.

Since it looks like this will be my home mountain this year (with lots of sidetrips to other great mountains), I'm hoping for a real good season there. Then, maybe the posts (and posters) will increase in number.

I think Wildcat deservedly gets some of the AZ love.

Wildcat has steadily risen in my estimation to where it is now in my top 5 places I like to ski, especially after this past April's powder fest.

In my mind, northern New England
Burke got a lot of love last season and the seasons before that. Then, the 06/07 season ended...

Pico gets lots of love especially now that it is a 5-day a week mountain. Saddleback seems to be an emerging darling too.

In this thread it doesn't matter if the mountain is deserving or not, it's about who gets the positive threads. JimmyG's girl Paris Hilton doesn't deserve the attention she gets, but she gets it.

You get halo effect you just disagree with me. Let me give Magic as an example, I've never skied there, but I've read in other forums about it from some real magic haters. Here it seems in bad taste to say anything against the place.

I believe you guys when you say it has the steepest terrain in Southern Vermont, but you know, it's still Southern Vermont.

Thank you sir, may I have another?

HPD, I think your blowing it out of proportion a bit. A bit. I mean, I'm not on competing mountains websites or anything rallying those skiers to go someplace like Magic. I just happen to like Magic. And I don't understand folks who "hate " places.

There's no accounting for tastes. I've been to Alta and Snowbird in UT. I loved Snowbird; loved it!! Tons of steep shots (STEEP shots) easily accessible. Great snow. Then I went to Alta. Same great snow, pretty much the same great terrain. Laid back vibe. Like MRG here in the east, which I love. But there? All that traversing and hiking and slow lifts? Snowbird literally next door? Never went back, skiied Snowbird the next 4 days. Whenever I think of UT I always remember Snowbird. Alta? I laugh when people speak of it in reverent tones...I don't get it. And it's just like MRG, a place I rank #1 in the east.

Go figure.

Maybe it's preferences or maybe it's something about the specific mountain, but I guess a bunch of people who like the places mentioned just happen to come here. Maybe it's the demographic. Maybe it's the ability level(s). Maybe it's perceptions. I think Whiteface gets it's due here too...more so than most other sites I see.

Might I be the earliest registered mountain rep? That ought to earn some love from the gang. I was in AZ before it was cool for mountain reps to go cyber. In fact, I was in AZ before I worked for K, or Attitash or SR. Thus my original handle lives on. It might not earn SR any love, but maybe it decreases the likelyhood of hate? I like to think so. :)

I don't get what I'm blowing out of proporation. The thread is about what mountains people think get the most buzz here. Just something to talk about that's all.

Maybe I'm reading too much into what you write. There's an edge of conspiracy to your posts that makes it sound a bit like the tally is rigged or something. To me it's just coincidence that certain mountains are liked here.

Maybe I don't get the halo effect.
