This rip started late for me. Boo! I was in a meeting dealing with next years marketing strategies and shit... it went straight into the trail head meeting time.
So i get out of work, race over to the beer store to stock up on a couple grown up sodas for after, and make it to the trail head off 219 right around 5. I meet up with a guy from work and we notice that a couple people we know have parked and hit the trail. With having talked to them earlier, we knew they were going to hit up lower tower of power and session the new 3 pack due to the hotness outside... i think it was 90 when we started.
anyways, my buddy and i go up the road out of the parking area and took that first right... its a trail that hasn't been ridin much since all the stunts have been put up, but its entertaining and a good way to get the lungs working. its got some sand at the begining, but it eventually runs into a nice flatish twisty trail. it's short, but when we get to the end, we give the dog some water...(lots of stops in this ride.. hot.. and i wanted to ensure the dog is taken care of.)
so we're heading up a jeep road for about an 1/8 mile to cross the power lines and connect to the blue trail. there's a good amount of climbing on this stretch... usually id prefer to go the other way, but, we were interested in seeing if a trail we enjoyed a few years ago survivied the logging masacre of 08. The trail was dry, and for the most part, leaf-less. good stuff.. if it wasn't so hot and i wasn't so lazy i could have gotten most of the climbs, but jesus... first big push at 90 degrees did not treat me well. i walked a lot of the ups...not all of them by the way... just the last few feet where i ran out of go in the legs.
so... we summit this zone of the blue trail to discover the trail we wanted was trashed... not even recognizable. it's done.
we stay the course on the blue trail down a section that is rediculously "tech" and by that i mean just straight gnarly... i wasn;t wearing pads and my buddy isn't into that style of riding, so we took it pretty easy... once we were to the area where oyu can choose to take jeep roads to lower storm chaser, continue up the blue towards look out or cross over to missing link and tower, we made the choice to take tower.
tower of power was in really good shape. lots of fun. Dry, and fast. All of the upper stunts have melted down to shit, but it didn't matter. it was the first sustained fun stretch of the ride at this point.
the last down has 4 fun things on it... a rocky roller, into a wood launch into a 2 pack of doubles. its at this point we met up with the two dudes i mentioned at the begining. they hit the kickers a couple more times which was cool to watch.
those guys had enough and went for beers while my buddy and i took another lap up to missing link which, again, was in awesome shape. Dry, fast, jumps in good condition... good times... then we hit bob sled on the way out and called it a day after an hour of riding in the hot...not bad... i feel like we covered some ground for a short afterwork rip.
anyways, that was yesterdays nepaug ride.
again today if anyone wants to join up.
