New Cannon Tram?

something t2b with a mid unload higher and the lookers left of zoomer

I feel like the terrain above and to the left of Zoomer is pretty rugged and windy as far as running a chair up it goes, unless you meant putting a new tram in such an alignment. That still wouldn't change the terrain available for top-to-bottom laps either, although it might shorten the tram cutback a bit. As wonky as it is, I feel like the current lift layout generates about as much uphill capacity as the mountain can handle, especially considering the midmountain bottleneck mentioned earlier in the thread.

You're definitely not wrong about the mid mtn bottleneck and I feel like they've done what can be done there. I would just settle with 7day tram operations for those morning laps. Taking 2 chairs to do that can be a drag.

Absolutely agree with that. Not to mention the slog back to Zoomer when Tramline and Kinsman are open. 4 "laps" through Kinsman last Friday ate up at least 2 hours lol

I'd say so. Encountered more hikers than skiers. Cover was marginal to half-decent; I think they re-closed it late Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully March delivers the goods and we can look back and say it was open for more than 3 days this season.

I get why they want a tram but functionally as a skier if you removed the zoomer chair and ran something t2b with a mid unload higher and the lookers left of zoomer it would be a primo east coast lift. Maybe theyll bring back 7 day operations with a new tram?
Well, the primary motivator for this lift is not the ski season, it's the summer and fall tourism $$ it generates. Kind of a unique lift at least in the Northeast, it drives more revenue outside of ski season than it does in ski season. Only other "ski area" in the East I can think of that does similar is Ober Gatlinburg. They're Tram is used far more outside of the ski operation than in it and they even have at least one other chair that only operates in the warm seasons and not winter.

And apparently, switchng to a Gondola just up the current Tram alignment would cost 25-30% more than a new Tram.

A brand new tram from the ground up would cost more than a gondola, but this replacement would reuse some of the existing infrastructure while a gondola would need all new everything.

Side thought I had (more just fantasy talk than anything else) - why not revive the Banshee lift in some way shape or form to provide a way out if the Tram line is 30+ minutes?

Yes, the terminal buildings will be reused. But the balance will be all new, especially if they jump to 100 pax cars. All the guts will need to be new. In the end, an aerial Tram is actually less costly to build than a Gondola. A Gondola has much more installed gear on hill with all the extra support towers vs a Tram, the cost of each cabin is high and the number of them far exceeds the cost of the two large cans on a Tram. Finally, maintenance on a Gondola is far more costly than a Tram since a Tram is fixed grip vs all those detach grips and hardware in the terminals, all the added sheave sets on a Gondola, etc. A gondy on Cannon on this line (even more if you ran it up banshee with a turn station to the top) would be far more costly in comparison to what it cost BW's to put theirs in over comparatively flat terrain. I think the Tram is a better fit for what Cannon wants, and it keeps it a unique ride experience.

I guess I stand corrected. I agree that they should keep it a tram.

Btw, how do you get the preview of the article to appear in your comment? I posted the same link on page 2 but all that shows on my comment is the bare link.

I just copied the link from my browser and pasted it into my post. The rest was done by the platform.
