LOL, i drive 55 miles each way to sundown. didn't do much night skiing last year but i think i'll be good for 1 night a week this year.

LOL if it works for you that's great. Working in the city, its an hour or so home, then change etc, drive an hour, boot up... kind of a hassle. If I was skiing there on the weekends too, maybe I would go night skiing there once in a while but im in VT every weekend.

I'm not a huge fan but if I'm at a resort that offers night skiing I will night ski usually the first day we drive in (because my day time skiing was limited) or if it's snowing. I've had some great times at Snowshoe under the lights with snow falling and being the only one on the entire slope. I love snow. :snow:

night skiing cuts into my drinking time.

Not sure if you are kidding or not, but there is definitely some truth to this for me. Day time is when I want to be outside skiing or whatever else outdoors, and nights are when I like to drink, relax, go out, etc. That said, night skiing is fun once in a while for a change of pace.

2 winters ago when we had all that snow, I rode at Wachusett pretty much 1 night each week for the whole season. Then I skied weekend days with the kids. I do find the limited terrain a bit boring, but it's awesome exercise.

It doesn't even interrupt the drinking time. In fact, I nearly always managed to pause at some point mid-evening for a beverage then head out for more runs.

If I were not a passholder at a close by mountain, I wouldn't seek out night skiing. But having it available can be tons of fun.

While I prefer day- I ski at least one night a week- hope to make it a regular twice a week this year. My local hill is 15-20 minutes- I can shoot out for a couple hours anytime, it is nice. Would do more but work and family interfere- but kids are getting old enough to ski at night so maybe it will be even more.

Mont St. Anne offers a ticket that starts at noon & is good till 9pm in addition to either a regular day pass or night pass. It's great because you don't have to wake up early & can have either a late breakfast or early lunch before skiing. I usually stop again to have dinner just before dusk because that's when visibility is toughest with flat light before the lights have a chance to take effect. After dinner go out again & ski as long as you want until 9pm. They also usually groom the slopes again after 4pm.

Nearby Stoneham also has night skiing & sells tickets by the hour so you can chose to ski when you want for as long as you want. They also sell regular day or night passes also. I think these options are great.

Night skiing is cheaper for reason. Pick any day resort that you favor and think of the conditions by 2-3pm. The snow is just trashed and that's pretty much the starting surface when night skiing. Midday grooming is a joke. There's a reason most grooming takes place many hours before the resort opens. It gives the groom a chance to freeze up so it will last most of the day. Skiing a recently groomed slope is almost akin to a powder day. If you're one of the first half dozen skiers to hit it, it's great, but after that it's wiped clean to the base layer. That said, I do enjoy the Wawa night race league but it will never replace daytime skiing for me. Even on crowded weekends it's better than night skiing.

I'd have to say that 85% of all of my skiing in life up to this point has been at night. It'd be better to justify this based on time, but it's definitely been an economic reason. The last 4-6 seasons have had me at Holiday Valley on Sunday nights, paying $135 for every Sunday night of the season total. It's been a package that was too easy on the wallet and still made up for getting home at midnight having to work in the morning.

It may be total bs, but maybe I could assume I'm a better skier for dealing with strained light conditions, refrozen scrapes, skied out trails, unpredictable kids for the first two hours, poaching unlit trails in the moonlight, enduring colder conditions, and dealing with shadows. I dunno.

I'd like to check out Mt. Hood Skibowl someday. Looks like they have some MASSIVE lights and expansive terrain compared to everyone else.

Wow. I have been there before in the summer but never noticed that. Not that we have bowls like that in the East but can you imagine a mountain trying to get a permit for huge lights like that here? Yeah right!

While many seem to be looking down on night skiing, fact is if it didn't exist at Wachusett, I would've maybe skied about 20% as much as I did when I was in elementary and high school. Sure, theres a point where you don't really get any better by skiing Wachusett but it's amazing how good of shape going up there once or twice a week keeps you in skiing wise, while if my only days out were the ~10 (if I was lucky) in Vermont per year, I guarantee the rust would've come back in between every trip.

Night skiing is great and fun. It allows working folks the opportunity to ski midweek. That said, it is not a big thing because it is often colder at night, folks are more tired then, most mountains don't regroom their terrain (so it is skied out), and terrain is often limited. It only works near big cities and in places that aren't too cold (Vermont can be below zero at night).

That's pretty much how I feel about it. If I want to get as much skiing in as I can then it's a real plus though. Several years back I went to Windham for a weekender with friends and we skied all day and then night skiing and had a lot of fun. Certainly got our moneys worth!

Problem is the limited trails, it gets icy and can be really cold.

I was reading the "Over/Underrated" thread, and I noticed a couple of comments re: night skiing. Specifically,

"It's near always completely empty (unless you go night skiing, but that's mainly for the kiddies)" (I think in reference to Bolton), and;

"Night? Why the heck would I ski at night if I can ski all day? I'm not a kid any more." (I think in reference to MC)

I don't understand. Is this the prevailing prejudice? That night skiing is kid's stuff? If so, why? I think I might actually enjoy night even more than day. It's usually less crowded, and there is a completely different vibe. It's surreal.

I'm planning a big trip, and the availability of night skiing
Peimar led at various resorts along the way has actually helped me determine where the main destination will be. I'm planning travel days that allow for night skiing so as to maximize the amount of time skiing.

Is there no love for the night?

I am afraid to do night skiing. It could be really dangerous
