Date(s) Hiked: 06/26/2004

Trails(s) Hiked: Livermore Trail, Mt. Tripyramid Trail, Pine Bend Brook Trail and Scaur Ridge Trail

Total Distance: 10.8 miles

Difficulty: Misty weather after a steady rain the day before made this a difficult hike

Conditions: Misty weather with a downpour for the hike out.

Special Required Equipment: Good grippy boots and rain shell

Trip Report: A hike thrown together at the Flags meeting. The main purposeof the hike was for SonicBoom (Josh) to get himself over the halfway bump on his 4000 footers quest. Due to the rainy conditions, Vicki and Tagalong (Irene) chose to hike (shop) elsewhere. Tim, Sonic and myself set a quick pace to start out and arrived at the base of the North Slide in about an hour and a half. After a short break the uphill portion of our day began. The lower slabs of the slide were very slick and the overgrowth of moss made for extremely slow going. Near the bottom of the slide, I feel it's better to stay to the left as there are many stubby trees and roots that can assist you in the climb. If you have a fear of heights; it's best not to look down until you have reached a comfortable spot. About halfway up the slide it becomes more of a loose scree type of slide and for every three steps you took, it seems you slide backwards one. ***Pay special caution in this area to hikers that are climbing behind you*** Tim and I paused in the middle hoping for views but there were none. Sonic was perched on the large boulder at the top and eager to hit his halfway point. The summit was reached after a steep climb from the top of the slide. At this point, our group split as Sonic and Tim went on to finish the classic loop over the other two Tripyramids and down the South Slide. I wanted to Redline the Scaur Ridge trail and was pleasantly surprised by this trail. All the other ascents of the Tripryamids are rocky and at times very steep. This trail is very mellow and well trodden. The downpour commenced as I reached the Livermore trail and pummeled me until I got to the parking lot. There the sun started to break through and while muttering a slight curse to the weatherman, I thought "This beats any day at work" All hikes should end like that.
