I took out a ski patrol guy a couple of years ago. I was making turns down a trail- probably going faster than I should have. There was a group of about 5 ski patrol on the side of the trail talking. When I got almost beside them, one guy just skied right out in front of me without even looking to see if anyone was coming. I couldn't stop and just plowed right into him full speed. We both went flying, but were ok. We both apologized and he admitted that he didn't look.We gathered ourselves up, laughed about it and went on our way. Fortunately nothing was hurt, other than pride. All the other patrol guys gave him a tongue lashing for not looking before taking off into the trail.

The only person I have ever hit ...was my wife. Going down one of the steeper runs at Windham at a good clip she skied in front of me from the side and just stopped. Man what a collision total double yard sale. I was stunned. And it was right under the chair for all to see. After a minute or two we got it back together and got down. Riding up the chair again we see 3 patrollers looking for us. I can imagine the call they got.
And as for boarders and skiers coexisting on the mountain. We just have to accept the fact that we do it differently. It's like comparing GP racers to motorcross. Boarders turn differently and have a different plan in mind, and yes when they stop they usualy sit down. I have learned to anticipate this and never have a prob sharing the mountain with them. And a bit of reality is due here. if it wasn't for snowboarding, this industry would be in some trouble financialy. They constitute about half the riders at any given day. And bring home a hell of a lot of medals from the Olympics. I have made my peace with them and look forward to riding with them when I can. Wish I could do it myself but couldn't handle falling all day.

Back in the 80's I was patrolling at the Bush when the Mt Mgr called up top and asked me to bring down some paperwork. It was a nice day and not much good skiing to be had so I did not buckle my rear entry boots. You may remember that not buckling them means that you are skiing barefoot. so as i entered the base area, I could see the boss with a bunch of big shots waiting for me. Suddenly, a guy whistles to his buddy who turns quickly in front of me. I hit him SO hard. The paperwork was flying in the wind and I tumbled in a ball with this guy into a parked snowmobile. Nobody was hurt and he was embarrassed to have an accident with a guy in a uniform. The Mt Mgr made me buy 2 cases of beer for the next bootroom party.
The next highest penalty was a " Keg and a band " which was handed out once for losing a propane bottle down the mall. That wasn't me though.

Never been in anything serious, maybe clipped someone's skis stopping near a lift, or had someone hit me when I'm strapping in/unstrapping... nothing where anybody fell. Some skiiers get real pissy when you accidentally ride up on the backs of their skis on the liftline though. I was riding with two of my (snowboarder) friends at Bell and one of my freinds slid up a little too far onto at most an inch or two of someone's skis. He flipped shit and started screaming at my friend, something like "I'LL RIDE ON MY [take your pick of expletive... then gimme an 'ing'] SKIS AND YOU RIDE ON YOURS". I told him to chill out and so did his wife so he finally did but not before drawing quite a few stares.

I took out a whole ski school class once when I was younger. I was 18 skiing a little too fast out in Lake Tahoe (don't remeber the exact ski area) came over a rise in the backseat and there was the class all lined up. I tried to stop, but was off balance and hit the first person in line. The rest came down like dominos. I stuck around to make sure eveyone was OK and to appologize. The instructor was really pissed and wanted to pull my pass. But since I hung around they let me stay.

Haha. That ski patrol with the dual helicopters look awesome! :)

I have only been in one collision that I was at fault for. I don't remember exact details but I didn't hit them that hard. Kind of a bump, and then a slow fall. Since the collision wasn't that major I didn't ask if they were alright, but I did apologize.

Now don't want to turn this into a snowboard vs skier battle, but I have been hit a few times by boarders and just once by a skier. All apologized, however one of the boarders seemed like he was just apologizing for the sake of it, not because he meant it. Overall though, not any problems. Usually an apology or two and go about our ways.

That's why I always tell me kids to stop at the end of a line...not in the front, just in case ofcatching an edge or whatever...funny story though

Glad no one was hurt

Never hit, but I have been hit hard 3 times. All three were snowboarders. One apologized (and it was a true accident), one got hit (for being reckless and attempting to ski off) and one got a clipped ticket (because I was working and in a bad mood, but it was an accident) .

I had a student get hit once. The person who was out of control has a lifetime ban because the crash was completely avoidable and selfish. (adult hit a 6 year old instead of a tree?)

Does wiping your self out count? ;) JK

I don't believe I've ever taken anyone out, but may have bumped or touched someone else's skis in a lift line before. I do apologize for that. I don't like it to happen to me, so I'm sure others don't either.

Well Saturday at Hunter, It was very difficult not to nail somebody...had so many people drop into my line with out looking it was scary...and it was a chore not to get nailed...a lot of people carrying way to much speed...just blowing straight down the hill, not turns, nothing....and a lot of them catch an edge and crash and burn...

It was amazing that I only saw 2 sleds...but I did see a chopper land....I wonder if it was an evac?
