I'll add another vote for Sugarbowl. Simply amazing terrain, always tons of snow, small crowds, good prices, great trees and definitely accessible from Sacramento...

Also, Heavenly is definitely not much like Killington.

Went to Tahoe for the first time in January - it was in the 50's, and hadn't snowed in weeks... a bit disappointing for a Northeasterner hoping for less "eastern" type conditions...
Still, we had the best time at Alpine Meadows... enough challenge for those so inclined, and enough cruisers for the less ambitious...
Since we were staying at Incline Village, we also went to Diamond Peak, which was the most family friendly, and a fun little place, but only challenging because the conditions were typical northeastern "packed ice" and corn snow at the time we were there. With better conditions, it would be a pleasant hill for a recreational or family group...
Though we really enjoyed some of the vistas at Heavenly (we were, after all, tourists as well as skiers), the terrain layout was IMHO, awful. It seemed that we were walking or skating as much as we were skiing. The new village at the base of the gondola was, I was told by our companions who had been there before, a great improvement over a few years ago, but on the slopes was another story. It was a real pain to get back to a lift when you ran out of trail.
Never skiied Squaw, but dropped by at the end of the day, and will try in next time we get out there (hopefully next year).
Enjoy your day, wherever you go, it's better than a day at work :D
