The “How long before you hang em up” thread has me thinking what single sport I would chose if I had to. For me it would be golf. I truly enjoy skiing and always will, but golf I know I can do longer, more often, and with my wife more than skiing so that would be it. What would your life long sport be?????

It depends...I need constraints.

If I am going to die at age 70, I assume I could basically do everything I do now, just slower, so I'd def. pick skiing in that case. If you tell me I am going to die at 95, I'd have to pick the sport I can do til death, which is golf.

Somehow, this posted in the other thread by accident...

As soon as my daughter turns 10, I'll go back to SCUBA and Skin Diving.

Might even renew my professional certs, too.

I've been doing martial arts for just over 8 years now...hope to stay with it in some form for as long as my body's able.

As much as I enjoy skiing (and the remark on the other thread aside), if I had to make a choice it would not be first.

Had a few close calls. Got stuck in a cave in the Bahamas, had a bad silt-out on a wreck here in the NE. It can be a little un-nerving at times. Saw someone almost lose-it on the U-853 when another guy got his attention by tapping him on the back with what looked like a femur from one of the crew. Don't know if it was, but it sure looked like one.

I think it would be Badminton for me. Its an indoor sport and hence not seasonal. I can be as aggressive as I can afford to be and as tame as needed as I grow older and provides a excellent overall workout and reflex to keep fit. One problem with the sport is a tendency for knee and ankle injuries, which I will need to be careful about as I grow older. Skiing would definitely be my winter sport - I haven't played badminton for the past 3 months but I am not complaining because I have been skiing regularly.

Wow, you're a pretty serious diver. Do you go on those wreck dives off of the Cape where people occasionally just get swept away in the current?

I was pretty serious, hope to be again.

Never got into the real technical side of it, over 140', air mixes other than Nitrox, decompression stops etc... purely recreational, although, I did used to be an instructor and taught a few specialty courses (Nitrox, Deep, Wreck, Navigation, Photo, a few others...)

Did a bunch of dives off of Cape Ann, Gloucester and Rockport. A ton in the Block Island Sound and Narragansett. Nothing off of Cape Cod. I probably did almost as many in the Caribbean. Mexico, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Dominican, Cayman, Bahamas etc...

I could live without hiking...I could live without bowling..I could live with golf...but I could never live without skiing...good thing I don't have to choose one sport..lol

yup its the jersey shore, margate/ventnor to be exact.

speaking of surfing the Schuylkill this little standing wave popped up last spring during a flood when the high tide came up higher than the falls. it was tempting but it would probably have resulted in death.
